Altair Engineering Collaborates with Wolfram Research to Integrate Mathematica with PBS Professional Workload Management Solution

TROY, Mich., May 16 -- Altair Engineering, Inc., a leading global provider of technology and services that strengthen client innovation and decision-making, today announced that it has formed a partnership with Wolfram Research to integrate PBS Professional with Mathematica. The collaboration will create an optimized parallel Mathematica environment for clusters and high-performance computing (HPC) systems. Mathematica seamlessly integrates a numeric and symbolic computational engine, graphics system, programming language, documentation system and advanced connectivity to other applications.

"We have used our Cluster Integration Package to provide a direct interface with PBS Professional within Mathematica," said Dr. Roman Maeder, director of Parallel Computing Technology for Wolfram. "Users can now launch Mathematica though the PBS Professional workload manager without the need to rely on third-party tools. In addition, users can now take advantage of PBS Professional's advanced capabilities to launch and monitor distributed Mathematica jobs."

PBS Professional is an open workload management solution for HPC environments. The software maximizes the utilization of computing resources by intelligently scheduling and managing computational workload. By increasing the efficiency of the hardware and software resources, PBS Professional reduces total cost of ownership and provides true business value to grid computing customers in a variety of industries.

"We are excited to team up with Wolfram Research to provide solutions for our mutual customers to use our products together," said Dr. Bill Nitzberg, chief technology officer of Altair's PBS GridWorks. "Mathematica is the tool of choice at the frontiers in engineering analysis and modeling of scientific research. Providing robust interfaces to leading scientific and engineering applications such as this provides exceptional value to PBS Professional users."
