ALGOR V20 Wins Desktop Engineering's Readers' Choice Award

PITTSBURGH, PA - March 28, 2007 - Desktop Engineering (DE), a monthly publication that covers design solutions from concept through manufacturing, announced that ALGOR V20 was chosen as the winner of DE's Readers' Choice Award for March 2007. ALGOR V20 is the latest product release from ALGOR, Inc., a leading provider of design, analysis and simulation software.

"Each issue, Desktop Engineering gives a Readers' Choice Award to the product that has received the most reader interest in a recent issue," said Anthony J. Lockwood, DE's editorial director. "On behalf of the DE staff and the 63,000 all-engineer readership of DE, I congratulate ALGOR and its V20 software release for winning the DE Readers' Choice Award for March 2007."

"This award attests to the high level of interest in ALGOR V20," said ALGOR Product Manager Bob Williams. "It also reflects that our product-development process continues to be customer-driven and responsive to market needs. As one example, in ALGOR V20, we've introduced a new, faster, completely integrated CAD/FEA modeling environment in response to customer requests."

Some of the highlights of ALGOR V20 include:

o support for design scenarios (perform multiple analyses using different analysis types, load sets and constraint sets for the same model)

o a wizard for applying bolt loads

o support for design studies and size optimization

o improved meshing tools including isoparametric second-order brick elements (midside nodes follow curvature)

o enhanced capabilities for fluid flow analysis:

o support for multiple rotating frames of reference for 3-D modeling of complex fans and similar systems

o k-epsilon turbulence model for 3-D transient mixed Galerkin/Least-Squares (GLS) formulation with surface roughness effects

o buoyancy effects for transient analyses

o total pressure boundary for 3-D

o static pressure boundary with backflow for 3-D

o inlet and outlet vent for 3-D

o faster, best-in-class sparse solver for fluid flow, heat transfer and linear dynamic analyses

o updated Material Library Manager with new directory structure organization and tree view

o reinforced (rebar) concrete element and material model for Mechanical Event Simulation

o capability to define results-based load curves for Mechanical Event Simulation

o enhanced multiphysics analysis including coupled unsteady fluid flow and transient heat with buoyancy effects

o capability to use element length as a result type and in custom calculations

ALGOR's wide range of simulation capabilities includes static stress and Mechanical Event Simulation (MES) with linear and nonlinear material models, linear dynamics, fatigue, steady-state and transient heat transfer, steady and unsteady fluid flow, electrostatics, full multiphysics and piping.
