Alcatel First in Industry to Provide Advanced, Intrusion Containment and Security for Multi-Vendor Networks

PARIS, Feb. 21 / -- Alcatel (NYSE: ALA; Paris: CGEP.PA) today announced enhanced intrusion control and access control list (ACL) management capabilities for its Alcatel OmniVista enterprise network management system. The enhancements extend automated intrusion control to the Alcatel OmniSwitch product family for LAN and wireless LAN infrastructures, as well as basic intrusion control to third party LAN switches. Coupled with the strong security features of the Alcatel OmniSwitch, the new features protect the network from attacks and significantly reduce the time network administrators spend on complex, repetitive security administration.

Alcatel OmniVista provides fast and simple ways to limit the damage from IP-security breaches and is unique in the industry in that it provides an active, intrusion control response for an all Alcatel or multi-vendor enterprise network. The Alcatel OmniVista 2770 Quarantine Manager application protects the network from attacks at the network and application levels by isolating misbehaving users and providing a means for user remediation. New quarantine containment actions include blacklisting Alcatel OmniAccess wireless end-users who are a threat to the network using the access control list (ACL) containment for Alcatel OmniSwitch. Basic intrusion control for third-party switches is provided through port-shutdown isolation.

Complementing the strong ACL feature set of the Alcatel OmniSwitch LAN switch family, the new OmniVista 2760 SecureView ACL application provides policy-based, network-wide management of ACL policies. Managing ACLs is one of the most time-intensive aspects of administering a network. Simplifying and automating saves time and improves network configurations.

"Network intrusions continue to plague IT managers, making automated security critical to availability and cost-effective management of a network," said Tom Burns, senior vice president and general manager of Alcatel's enterprise network infrastructure activities. "By reducing the complexity of network management and providing an effective way to identify and contain wired or wireless intruders, we're providing a cost effective way to manage and secure Alcatel and multi-vendor enterprise networks."

Alcatel OmniVista is a set of applications that simplify the management of Alcatel and third party networking devices. These applications, which include the OmniVista 2770 Quarantine Manager and OmniVista 2760 SecureView ACL, allow managers to monitor network activity, configure and troubleshoot each device, as well as manage an entire network from a single platform.

The Alcatel OmniVista 2770 Quarantine Manager provides intrusion control. Starting with OmniVista 2770 Quarantine Manager 3.0, the intrusion control capabilities protect Alcatel LAN switch network, the Alcatel wireless LAN network and third party LAN switch networks -- both are available immediately.

The Alcatel OmniVista 2760 SecureView ACL automates the complex task of configuring network security policies by using access control lists. An optional component of Alcatel's OmniVista network management system 3.0, it is available immediately and the license costs $6,995 per server.

The Alcatel OmniVista network management applications support Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Microsoft XP Pro, Sun Solaris 2.9, Linux RedHat ES and Novell Suse 9.
