Alcan Shows Advanced Lightweight Aerospace Solutions at "Aluminium 2006" Exhibition in Essen, Germany

ESSEN, Germany, September 20 -- Alcan is presenting its innovative, lightweight aluminium solutions for the aerospace industry at the "ALUMINIUM 2006" exhibition in Essen, Germany from September 20 - 22, 2006.

"Aluminium is the preferred lightweight engineering solution in the aerospace industry, helping to reduce costs along the entire value chain," he added.
Alcan is also a highly reputable supplier of light-alloy precision castings and a world leader in alloy technology, including advanced aluminium-lithium solutions. In cooperation with its customers, Alcan is aiming to reduce airframe weight by a further 20 percent and airframe costs by 30 percent. Among the Company's most recent innovations is a wide range of alloys for the Airbus A380 programme and the supply of advanced lightweight aluminium products for the Boeing 787 Dreamliner.
Visitors to Alcan's exhibition are being offered an insight into the Company's outstanding technological competencies. Highlights include a large fuselage section, manufactured from plate and other Alcan-supplied components, and a full-scale aluminium fuselage panel, manufactured using an advanced ageform process specifically developed for the aircraft industry.

In June 2006 Alcan commissioned an advanced, US$ 28 million aerospace plate investment at its facility in Issoire, France. The equipment includes state-of-the-art heat-treatment furnaces and non-destructive control equipment designed to meet the highest environmental and employee health and safety standards.
