Air Tester checks for diesel fumes.

Press Release Summary:

DPM Cassette, with impactor, differentiates diesel particulate matter from other respirable dust based on particle size. It contains precision-jeweled impactor, impaction substrate, and quartz filter. Impactor screens out particles greater than 1.0 micrometer while particles less than 1.0 micrometer collect on filter. Samples are analyzed for total carbon content using EGA technique with thermal-optical analyzer as specified in NIOSH Method 5040.

SKC Releases Cassette with Impactor for Collection of DPM

SKC Inc., Eighty Four, PA - SKC announces the release of the new DPM Cassette with impactor for air sampling in atmospheres where it is necessary to differentiate diesel particulate matter (DPM) from other respirable dust (such as coal dust) based on particle size.

Designed for one-time use, the SKC DPM Cassette is sealed to ensure sample integrity. Each streamlined plastic cassette contains a precision-jeweled impactor, impaction substrate, and heat-treated quartz filter. The precision-jeweled impactor screens out respirable particles greater than 1.0 micro m while particles less than 1.0 micro m are collected on the filter.

DPM samples are quantitatively analyzed for total carbon (organic and elemental) content using a highly sensitive evolved gas analysis (EGA) technique with thermal-optical analyzer as specified in NIOSH Method 5040. Total carbon represents more than 80% of diesel particulate emissions. When compared to gravimetric methods, Elemental Carbon Analysis is more specific and sensitive.
