Casella Introduces TUFF Air Sampling Pumps for Harsh Environments

Harsh Environments No Problem for Ruggedized TUFF(TM) Air Sampling Pumps from Casella

AMHERST, NH, April 6, 2009 - Working in harsh environments can expose employees to dangerous airborne particulates, such as lead, mold or asbestos. To combat this serious health issue, Casella USA today introduced its TUFF(TM) line of personal air sampling pumps featuring a sealed case with rubber over-molding that protects internal electronics from damaging moisture, extreme temperatures, solvents, and impact.

Offering a wide flow range from 5 ml/min to 4.5 l/min, the three pumps that comprise the new TUFF line are ideally suited to a wide range of occupational health applications from simple abatement sampling, to more specialized industrial hygiene monitoring of dusts, fumes and vapors. All pumps incorporate an efficient double-acting diaphragm pump mechanism with precise digital control. This offers the user excellent real-time flow control and stability across a wide range of sampling media. Operation is guided by an intuitive user interface displaying real time flow, sampled volume and run duration, a battery "fuel gauge" and an alarm for flow or battery fault conditions.

Customers can purchase the pump they need from either the TUFF Standard, the TUFF Plus, or the high-end TUFF Pro. Versatile choices easily enable safety professionals to customize a TUFF pump for specific requirements by a combination of firmware programmed into the main pump body, either a 1.7 or 2.7 Ah battery pack, a 3 or 4.5 l/min maximum flow rate capacity, and different battery cell chargers to make a fully working assembly. Each of the pumps have 4.8V NiMH rechargeable battery cells with maximum run times of up to 40 hours with a 37mm GFA cassette, making TUFF pumps the perfect choice when there is no electrical power within the sampling area.

Rounding out the introduction is a full line of accessories including sampling heads, bubblers, filter media, and sorbent tubes, along with several rotameters and calibrators to calibrate TUFF pumps to ensure compliance to sampling methodologies.

Casella TUFF air sampling pumps meet EN1232 and NIOSH 0600 requirements for personalized sampling pumps in workplace environments, and are pending approval for IEC Ex, ATEX and UL listing as being intrinsically safe. The pumps will be available in the late second quarter of 2009 with an MSRP starting at $575 (U.S.) for the standard model and a single charger.
