Air Quality Maintained with a Quiet Twist

Air movement specialist Fanquip is providing a customised design and installation service to suit one of the fastest growing needs of industry -- the ventilation and acoustic package.

The combination of ventilation and acoustic solutions and maintenance primarily came about from rapidly increasing demand from industrial companies right across Australia which are confronted by encroachment by urban development into longstanding industrial areas.

A recent installation of this nature, in one of the oldest industrial areas of Sydney, challenged Fanquip engineers to urgently fit a large-scale production plant with an upgraded air maintenance system and had to take into account new residential developments that have amassed close to its fence lines over the decades.

In basic terms, the Fanquip solution had to meet very stringent noise levels for this 24/7 operation; so choosing the right combination of solutions from its lines of Australian-designed and -made technology was critical.

The team opted for a system that works around nine of its Profile Based Hooded Roof fans. As a way of equalising the airflow and noise attenuation throughout the massive plant, wall louvres were included in specific locations.

These wall louvres range in size from 2-3 square metres each. The end result is primarily a synchronised vent system that draws air in through the two-stage acoustic louvres and out via attenuated Hooded Roof Fans, thereby providing optimised airflow with quiet operation.

In addition, the Hooded Roof Fans were customised with attenuation covers because these units operate externally and there is a great need for quiet operation due to the proximity of residential buildings, and also maintaining external aesthetics to suit the surrounding area.

An important aspect of Fanquip's turnkey approach is its ability to institute appropriate safety and access equipment to allow easy ongoing inspection and maintenance - particularly for roof mounted solutions.

Fanquip Hooded Roof Fans operate using a 'down' discharge system to allow fast purging of dust affected internal environments in controlled fashion, thus ensuring this dust is not scattered recklessly into the local environment.

As Fanquip's hooded roof fans are supplied in any of six standard profile bases (corrugated iron, Trimdek, Super Six, Spandek, Double Rib & Span 4, and Longspan) retrofitting is normally a straightforward procedure.

Using a profile base, installation costs and time are cut by as much as 60 percent and the unit can be installed by customers quite easily. No upstand is needed.

Made from fibreglass/alloy, Fanquip hooded roof fans are rated as heavy duty and can withstand the force of extreme weather conditions and the threat of erosion.

Hooded roof fans are strategically positioned in the warehouse, workshop, storage depot, processing plant or other large complex so as to provide laminar air flow through the entire facility.

Often, heat or pungent odours are prevalent and require detailed application design to provide a sure solution.
