Air Products' Hydrogen Fueling Technology Filling Cars at BP's Southeast Michigan Hydrogen Fueling Station

LEHIGH VALLEY, Pa. (October 23, 2006) - Air Products' (NYSE: APD) hydrogen fueling technology was officially placed into use today as BP dedicated a new hydrogen fueling station as part of a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) project designed to facilitate the field-testing of fuel cell vehicles and fueling infrastructure in the United States. The DOE program is the next step in bringing hydrogen to broad market distribution. Located at the NextEnergy Center in Detroit, the BP hydrogen station features Air Products' hydrogen fueling technology now in place at over 50 fueling stations worldwide.

Air Products' Series 200 fueling technology, a totally integrated vehicle fueling system, will provide the storage and dispensing of hydrogen to the vehicles. This fueling technology is designed to meet early vehicle fleet fueling requirements by providing the customer flexibility of using hydrogen generated on-site, or a distributed hydrogen supply, integrated with storage and vehicle dispensing capabilities. The hydrogen fueling facility at NextEnergy Center has the capacity to store 50 kilograms of hydrogen and dispense 20 to 40 kilograms of hydrogen per day. The BP station will supply fuel to DaimlerChrysler fuel cell vehicles.

The BP hydrogen station at NextEnergy Center is part of a collaboration between BP, DaimlerChrysler and NextEnergy, supported by U.S. DOE's five-year fuel cell vehicle and infrastructure validation effort.

"We are pleased BP selected our technology for this station. We have had a relationship of working together on other hydrogen fueling stations and are pleased to assist them with this project and their work with DOE and the infrastructure validation program," said Don Eichelberger, commercial development manager-Future Energy Solutions at Air Products.

In 2004, Air Products also supplied the hydrogen fueling technology for BP for the first ever hydrogen fueling station to be located at a retail gasoline site in Singapore. The establishment of this station, for which Air Products was presented a Project Safety Award from BP, made BP the first energy company in the world to provide the environmentally-friendly fuel at an existing retail site, alongside conventional fuels.
