New Spectrum® 1000 Now Featuring Auto-Line(TM) Primary Power Management Technology

o Patented Ultra-Quick Connect(TM) offers fastest torch connection and removal
o ICE-80T torch provides an increased rated cut, longer consumable life

APPLETON, Wis. March 15, 2005-Designed for superior cutting and gouging, the new Spectrum® 1000 air plasma cutting and gouging system from Miller Electric Mfg. Co. offers increased flexibility with Auto-Line(TM) primary power management technology. Auto-Line allows automatic connection to any primary input voltage from 208 to 575 volts, single- or three-phase, 50 to 60 Hz. In addition, the patented Ultra-Quick Connect(TM) torch allows for the fastest plasma torch connection and removal in the industry. Auto-Refire(TM) Technology automatically controls the pilot arc when cutting expanded metal or multiple pieces of metal, reducing operator fatigue and increasing the lifetime of consumables.

Superior Cutting and Gouging Capabilities
When using 3-phase input power, the Spectrum 1000 has a rated output of 80 amps at 150 VDC with a 60 percent duty cycle at 230 to 575 volts and 50 percent at 208 volts. When input power is 1-phase, the Spectrum 1000 has a rated output of 80 amps at 150 VDC with a duty cycle of 50 percent at 230 volts and 40 percent at 208 volts.

Rated Cutting Capacity for the Spectrum 1000 is 1 in. (25.4 mm.). Rated Cutting Capacity is measured at 10 inches per minute, which is the minimum speed at which an operator achieves a smooth, steady cut using a hand-held torch. Maximum Quality Cutting Capacity measures 1-1/4 in. (32 mm.) and means the cut at 1-1/4 in. is a good quality cut achieved at lower speeds. The Sever Cut Capacity of the Spectrum 1000 measures 1-1/2 in. (38 mm.) and is the maximum cut achieved in ideal conditions. For aluminum and other metals with high thermal conductivity, cutting capabilities will be derated as much as 30 percent.

In addition to its cutting capabilities, the Spectrum 1000 provides superior gouging capabilities, offering an extremely long gouging arc for hard-to-reach, heavy applications. Plasma arc gouging produces less dust, smoke and other harmful environmental hazards compared to carbon arc gouging.

Fastest in the Industry
Patented Ultra-Quick Connect offers the fastest and easiest plasma torch connection and removal in the industry, while the new, rugged ICE-80T torch provides an increased rated cut of 1 in. compared to the Spectrum 3080, which it replaces, longer consumable life and a torch cable that is more resistant to burns and cuts. The ICE-80T torch includes a drag shield that attaches to the cup and holds the tip 1/18 in. (3.2 mm.) off the work piece, permitting the operator to drag the torch on the work piece while cutting at full output. This dragging motion increases operator comfort and makes template cutting easier. In addition, the ICE-80T utilizes the same consumables as the ICE-80CX, which makes ordering easy for distributors and end users.

Flexible Convenience
Now featuring Auto-Line primary power management technology, the Spectrum 1000 increases flexibility by automatically connecting to any primary input voltage from 208 to 575 volts, single- or three-phase, 50 or 60 Hz. In addition, LVC(TM) (line voltage compensation) provides peak performance power under variable input voltage conditions (176-630 volts) for steady cuts and cleaner ending cuts.

Auto-Refire Technology provides the ultimate in customer convenience by automatically controlling the pilot arc when cutting expanded metal or multiple pieces of metal, saving on costs by preserving consumables. The pilot arc will switch in and out as fast as needed when cutting and automatically provides maximum power for cutting thicker metal. Automatic re-triggering reduces user hand fatigue, increasing operator comfort.
