Canon U.S.A. Announces Release of New AB Series Air Bearing

New AB Series Offers Minimized Air Flow for Low Cost Operations

[LAKE SUCCESS, NEW YORK, November 20, 2003 - The Semiconductor Division, Encoder Products Group, of Canon U.S.A., Inc., a subsidiary of Canon Inc. (NYSE: CAJ), has recently announced the release of a new AB Series Air Bearing. The AB series - which is an extension of an existing line - offers two key products, the AB-36RV and AB-50RV.

Ideal for head testing and media certification applications, these products are designed to serve as key components of ultra-high processing technology. Unique in its product design, the Canon AB Series helps to minimize air flow and friction making it possible to reduce the size of the compressor, resulting in a lower cost operation for customers. The product lines also feature high rotation accuracy, excellent rigidity and high stiffness bearing. Both products are made of porous carbon material that helps to eliminate seizure concerns and the loss of reproducibility caused by air malfunctions during rotation.

The new AB-36RV model has an axial load of 4.2 - 5.0 Kgf, with a radial load ranging between 3.8 Kgf (normal) to 5.0 maximum. This product also features radial stiffness of 2.5 and axial stiffness of 2.8 Kgf/µm.

The AB-50RV model now features an axial load between 7.2 - 9.0 Kfg, radial load from5.0 Kgf (normal) to 6.3 maximum, and radial stiffness of 2.5 and axial stiffness of 3.6 Kgf/µm.
