Aerostar International to Produce US Military Parachutes on Eton System
ALPHARETTA, GA - July 12, 2006 - Eton Systems, the world's leading provider of unit production systems (UPS) for the sewn-products industries, announces that Aerostar International has purchased an Eton system for production of military personnel parachutes at its Huron, South Dakota (USA) plant. The conveyorized system, which is custom configured to accommodate the large parachutes within the 13 foot high ceilings at Huron, will consist of 21 workstations and is designed to eliminate manual transportation throughout the assembly process and reduce individual operator handling. The Eton system will feature special purpose product carriers designed specifically to provide Aerostar workers with more convenient access to the parachute assembly points without the traditional lifting and handling of the bulky products.
Founded in 1986, Aerostar International Inc. is a wholly owned subsidiary of Raven Industries (NASDAQ: RAVN), which began manufacturing parachutes in 1956. Aerostar manufactures military parachute systems along with custom-shaped inflatable products and high-altitude balloons for government and commercial research.
