E-T-A Aerospace Circuit Breaker Handles Currents to 50A

Single-pole model weighs just 60 grams

Chicago, IL, April 2006 - E-T-A Circuit Breakers announces the 4140, a high-performance, single pole circuit breaker. The 4140 is significantly smaller than Mil-spec 24571 requirements and 10% lighter than most competing devices yet provides current ratings from 20 to 50 A. Even with optional auxiliary contacts, a 4140 breaker weighs just 60 grams.

Considering the hundreds of circuit breakers used in commercial airliners, the cumulative weight reduction achieved by using the 4140 is a substantial benefit to aircraft designers.

Specifications
The 4140 circuit breaker is designed for 115 Vac (400 Hz) or 28 Vdc applications, is temperature compensated in the range from -67 to +194°F (-55 to +90°C), and qualified to operate in ambient temperatures up to 257°F (125°C).Typical life is 5000 mechanical cycles and 2500 inductive cycles, assuring long, reliable service.

Optional polarized or unpolarized auxiliary contacts provide additional signaling up to 0.5 A at 28 Vdc. Other options and accessories include thread neck size selection, terminal hardware, actuator extension and identification collars.

A three-pole version is also available (Type 5140).

Applications
In addition to aircraft applications, including military requirements under the COTS (commercial off-the-shelf) program, the 4140 circuit breaker is also suitable for rugged ground vehicles and applications where high-performance circuit protection is required. Additionally, the 4140 meets Mil-Std 202, method 101 test condition B (salt spray test), making it suitable for marine applications, where corrosion, mechanical specifications, and weight are prime concerns.
