Original Press Release:

Giant Aerial is Road Legal

Bronto Skylift has introduced a 158-ft. working height, 1,000-lbs. unrestricted platform capacity aerial work platform that is road legal in most states. In its stowed configuration, the Model S158 MDT is only 8-ft. wide by 12-ft., 8-in. high and has a gross weight under 54,000 lbs. making it the highest reaching aerial work platform in North American that can be driven over most roads without needing special permits.

The new lift also features the Bronto +2(TM) advanced control system that monitors the outrigger settings and platform load for increased safety with maximum productivity. It automatically keeps the platform within safe operating parameters even if the machine has outriggers fully extended and set on one side (short jacked). The control system also oversees axle lock, automatic outrigger deployment and leveling status; and if the outriggers are not positioned correctly or there is zero ground pressure on an outrigger, there are alarms to warn the operator. The boom is interlocked with the outriggers and cannot be operated without their proper deployment. A single control button activates the outriggers and leveling system, which can be positioned in less than a minute.

The commercial chassis used on the Bronto S158 MDT is an International "Severe Service" truck Model 5600i 6 X 6 that uses a Cummins 325-hp ISM diesel engine and an Allison automatic transmission. Fabco supplies both the front drive axle and transfer case; there are also locking differentials and ABS brakes. Operator comfort has been built into the cab that has such features as air conditioning, an air-ride driver's seat and tilt/telescoping steering wheel.
