ADVA Optical Networking's FSP 3000RE Positions MBO Video for Profitable Growth

Upgrade delivers Midwest service provider ability to expand offerings in business and wholesale services.

Mahwah, New Jersey, USA; Martinsried/Munich, Germany (Vocus) December 5, 2007 -- ADVA Optical Networking today announced that MBO Video has deployed the Fiber Service Platform (FSP) 3000RE to provide it with a highly scalable and flexible Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) architecture, helping ensure profitable growth and providing advanced services to its varied customers.

"Historically, MBO Video led in our marketplace as the first statewide redundant network that supported video distance learning applications," said Gene Baldwin, president, MBO Video. "From there we have grown to provide integrated solutions with voice, data, video, Internet, cable and wireless applications."

The FSP 3000RE is currently enabling delivery of 2.5Gbit/s and 10Gbit/s services to MBO Video. Maximum scalability for the FSP 3000RE is up to 40Gbit/s on each of 40 wavelengths, or up to 1.6Tbit/s. With the ADVA FSP 3000RE solution, MBO Video provides video transport for a major statewide video network that connects universities, colleges and secondary educational facilities for distance learning applications as well as a wholesale video network that enables service providers to deliver digital video services.

"We implemented the ADVA FSP 3000RE because we knew in order to be competitive, we had to anticipate growing customer demands," says Milton Alford, director of Operations, MBO Video. "We are proud of our heritage as an innovator and our work in bringing enhanced learning opportunities and progressive services to customers."

MBO Video has deployed FSP 3000RE platforms at its 43 central offices linked along four optical-fiber network rings across nearly 2,000km. ADVA Optical Networking's solution enables MBO Video to offer its customers enhanced disaster recovery and wavelength services. The FSP 3000RE provides MBO Video with all the functionality required to service its customers today, and includes advanced features such as a GMPLS (Generalized Multiprotocol Label Switching) control plane and multi-degree ROADM (Reconfigurable Optical Add/Drop Multiplexer) that will allow it to scale and add new services for years to come.

"MBO Video has taken a leadership role in enabling more carriers, learning institutions and other customers to deliver high-bandwidth services, like video, to customers who may not be located in traditional metros," says Brian P. McCann, senior vice president of corporate marketing and strategy with ADVA Optical Networking. "To do this, carriers need next-generation network infrastructures based on Optical+Ethernet. We are pleased that our FSP 3000RE scalability and intelligent service provisioning capabilities are helping MBO Video grow their business."

The ADVA FSP 3000RE is a cost-effective, dynamic optical transport platform that provides a multitude of service interfaces for central offices, customer premises, co-location and carrier hotel applications. Using Raman amplification, the FSP 3000RE can also support regional networks, where reach requirements can be up to 2,000km and spans can reach 160km. The FSP 3000RE provides a versatile, cost-effective and compact platform for access, metro and regional applications. Wavelengths can be selectively configured at any node, with ROADM or fixed OADM filters, delivering an assortment of transparent, protocol-independent or aggregated services. Extensive monitoring and control are delivered via the RAYcontrol® GMPLS-based control plane.
