ADLINK Announces Complete Atom(TM)-based Computer-on-Module Line-up

Intel's "Navy Pier" platform is the cornerstone to a family of low-cost modules with
7-year lifecycles for medical equipment, portable devices, and industrial controllers

San Jose, Calif. - March 24, 2009 - ADLINK Technology, Inc., a leading global provider of trusted embedded products, unveiled a complete family of low-power, long-lifecycle computer-on-modules (COMs) anchored by the cost-conscious, ultra low power Intel® Atom(TM) N270 processor at 1.6 GHz (code name "Diamondville"). The products are available in the most popular COM small form factors (SFFs): ETX and PICMG's COM Express Basic and Compact sizes. With a lifecycle of 7 years or more due to Intel's commitment and reputation combined with ADLINK's new Design Partner Network, these products are well-positioned to power the next generation of medical equipment, portable devices, and industrial controllers.

The Express-AT (Basic 125x95 mm size) and Express-ATC (Compact 95x95 mm size) are cost-optimized for legacy-free new applications. The ETX-AT adds legacy features including a PCI-to-ISA bridge and a legacy super I/O chip for serial ports, PS/2 keyboard and mouse, and a parallel port to provide a simple upgrade path for existing ETX-based systems. These three "Navy Pier" products operate at a modest 8-12 W.

"We are pleased to offer a wide range of industrial-grade Atom-based modules to medical device manufacturers and to integrators covering a wide range of other markets," explained PJ Go, general manager, Ampro ADLINK Technology, Inc. "The low power and long lifecycle of these solutions clearly is a breakthrough for customers pushing the limits of integration for their next systems."

About ADLINK's Atom-based COMs

The Express-ATC is a 95x95 mm module that plugs into applications-specific custom carrier boards, fully compatible with PICMG's COM.0 specification, type 2 pinout, "Compact" size. The Express-AT is a 125x95 mm module that is functionally equivalent to the Express-ATC, except that it is 30 mm longer. The extra size could be beneficial for applications that need more space over which to spread the processor and chipset heat. Both products are full function, low power consumption COMs that features the embedded roadmap Intel 945GSE Express chipset and provide relief against some of the high-priced COM Express(TM) modules on the market.

The Express-ATC and Express-AT are entry level COM Express modules for systems that require a full set of graphics features. The modules come with integrated support for high resolution CRT, single/dual channel LVDS and TV-Out (SDTV and HDTV). In addition to the onboard-integrated graphics, the chipset's SDVO bus can connect to DVI, TMDS, or additional LVDS or TV-Out device controllers on a custom designed carrier board. The graphics support is well-suited for medical diagnostics and lab equipment, medical imaging, test and measurement, video preprocessing, and industrial control.

The Intel Atom processor N270 (Diamondville) features a thermal design power of just 2.5 Watts at peak levels while supporting Intel SpeedStep® technology. Although much smaller, Intel Atom processors share the same architecture as Intel Core(TM)2 Duo processors. Atom processors support Hyper-Threading technology earlier introduced with the Intel Pentium® 4 processor, which allows more than one code thread to be executed at the same time on a single core.

The Express-ATC and Express-AT support up to 2 GB of DDR2 533 MHz memory on a single SODIMM socket. The Mobile Intel 945GSE Express chipset integrates an Intel Graphics Media Accelerator, 950 that provides CRT, single/dual channel LVDS, and TV-Out (SDTV and HDTV). The board also allows connection of up to three additional PCI Express® x1 devices on the Intel I/O Controller Hub, ICH7M Southbridge.

Rounding out the features of Intel's "Navy Pier" platform, the module adds an onboard Gigabit Ethernet port and two SATA ports. It has legacy support for a Parallel IDE channel, 32-bit PCI(TM) bus, and an LPC bus. The Express-AT comes equipped with an AMIBIOS8, supporting embedded features such as Remote Console, CMOS backup, CPU and System Monitoring, and a Dual Watchdog Timer for NMI or RESET.

The ETX-AT module is similar, adding legacy features such as a PCI-to-ISA bridge and a legacy Super I/O chip for serial ports, PS/2 keyboard and mouse, and a parallel port. The ETX-AT supports up to 4 GB SSD on-board for a bootable OS or data storage, and supports legacy BIOS.
