MACtac® Introduces Ultra-Low Adhesion Adhesive

Gentle, repositionable adhesive is ideal for pediatric, geriatric applications

Stow, Ohio - June 13, 2005 - For short-term or sensitive skin applications, MACtac® Technical Products has developed an Ultra-Low Adhesion (ULA) adhesive, which offers low peel and repositionability. The hypoallergenic, medical-grade pressure sensitive adhesive is ideal for medical device, wound care and transdermal applications, such as eye drapes, bandages for wound care and anti-aging patches for the cosmetic market. The ULA is offered in single or double-coated foam, film and non-woven constructions.

Because of the gentle, low-tack properties of MACtac's Ultra-Low Adhesion adhesive, it is well suited for pediatric, geriatric and sensitive skin contact. The rubber-based adhesive has a cool, gel-like feel (similar to a hydrogel). And its low tack resists peel build, maintaining the same amount of peel adhesion after 24 hours as it does after 30 minutes, and allows for repositionability.

"By utilizing this new PSA platform, MACtac's ULA pressure sensitive adhesive offers better repositionability, clean removal, and eliminates the 'ouch' factor when removing," says Tim Mlnarik, MACtac Technical Products medical business development manager.

Currently, MACtac offers three products with the Ultra-Low Adhesion adhesive. For a stronger bond for wearable device and drape applications, double-coated PSAs are also available with factory liner-side coatings of MACtac's MP-597 adhesive. MP-597 is a medical-grade, acrylic-based adhesive that offers aggressive peel.

TM6200 is a 1/16", single-coated, closed cell, 4# density polyethylene foam. Typical applications would include EKG pads, grounding pads and I.V. holders.

TM9481 consists of a 2.4-oz. flesh-colored, spunlaced polyester non-woven material that is single-coated with the ULA adhesive. TENS electrodes and bandages are just some of the uses for this product.

TM9730 is a double-coated, ½-mil polyester with MP-597 on the factory or unwind side, and ULA on the field or liner side. Applications include fabrication of surgical drapes and assembly of other devices where the adhesive may come in contact with the skin.

All of the MACtac ULA products are protected by a 70# densified, semi-bleached kraft liner with a silicone release system.
