New Pyro-Putty 677 Insulates Induction Heating Coils

SUMMARY Pyro-Putty(TM) 677, a new high temperature, dielectric adhesive and coating system developed by Aremco Products, Inc., is now used to insulate copper coils used in induction heating applications to 2400°F (1316ºC). FEATURES Pyro-Putty(TM) 677 is an advanced, single part, water-dispersed, alumina-silica based, thixotropic adhesive and coating system for use in electrical insulation and bonding applications to 2400ºF (1316ºC). Properties include a dielectric strength of 200 volts per mil, volume resistivity of 109 ohm-cm, and tensile-shear strength of 450 psi. Pyro-Putty(TM) 677 is supplied in a paste consistency with a viscosity of 43,000 cps and specific gravity of 2.17 grams/cc. After application, it dries rapidly at room temperature in 1-4 hours and cures in 2 hours at 200°F. This material demonstrates low shrinkage and will not outgas under ultra high vacuum conditions. Uncured adhesive can be cleaned up easily with warm water. For induction coil applications, Pyro-Putty(TM) 677 produces a hard durable shell that protects induction coils from high temperature oxidation and prevents electrical shorts between the coil and the metals that are being heat-treated. Pyro-Putty(TM) 677 is also used to embed resistance-heating elements and encapsulate small electrical and electronic assemblies. This material is available from stock in pint, quart, gallon, and five-gallon pails. For more information about this advanced material, please contact Aremco's Technical Sales Department.
