Addivant(TM) Receives Formal Opinion from EFSA Further Expanding the Food Contact Approvals for its New Nonylphenol-Free Antioxidant

Danbury, Connecticut - Addivant™, a global leader in polymer additive technologies, announced today that its nonylphenol-free plastic antioxidant, WESTON® 705, has received a formal opinion from the European Food Standards Agency (EFSA) that expands the applicability of the breakthrough antioxidant to an even broader range of food contact applications.

The formal opinion from EFSA has been included in the draft sixth amendment to the EU plastics legislation (EU 10/2011) and is derived from the extensive additional testing that Addivant™ has performed on WESTON® 705 and the associated hydrolysis products. EFSA increases the specific migration limit of its hydrolysis product by a factor of 20 to 1mg/kg making WESTON®705 the plastic antioxidant of choice for most sensitive food-contact applications.

This enhancement in the EU approval of WESTON® 705 shows the continued investment and commitment that Addivant™ has with its introduction of this unique solution to the market.

“Regulatory bodies are actively tightening up migration limits on all components of packaging, and consumers are increasingly demanding transparency around packaging materials in food-contact applications,” said Serge Rogasik, Vice President and General Manager. “WESTON® 705 has been developed to surpass global regulatory standards, allowing food packaging companies to stay ahead of the industry curve.”

WESTON® 705 has been approved with several of the world’s largest polymer producers for use in a broad range of applications.  As a Responsible Care® company, Addivant™ is committed to provide new materials for the ever changing global regulatory environment.
