Additives improve HPDE extrusions.

Press Release Summary:

Dynamar(TM) Polymer Processing Additives are suitable for use in polyethylene extrusion applications to eliminate melt fracture and die build-up. In HDPE pipe extrusion, Dynamar FX 5911, FX 9613, and FX 5920B increase output by reducing backpressure during processing. Additives also improve processibility of blown and cast films, blow molded bottles, drums and tanks, extruded pipes and tubes, wire and cable jacketing materials, and extruded fibers.

Original Press Release:

Dynamar(TM) PPAs Improve HDPE Pipe Extrusion Output

Oakdale, Minn. - (July 31, 2002) - Dynamar(TM) Polymer Processing Additives (PPAs) from Dyneon are often used in a variety of polyethylene extrusion applications to eliminate melt fracture and die build-up, as well as to optimize processing conditions without compromising the performance properties of the final product.

In HDPE pipe extrusion, Dynamar PPAs have been shown to also increase output by reducing back pressure during processing. In a commercial trial, using a 0.45 MI (5 kg) HDPE, Dynamar(TM) FX 5911 added at 600 ppm showed a 45 percent output increase compared to the original formulation. Results will vary by application. Dynamar PPA products may also allow for a reduction in temperature settings while maintaining output.

More important to pipe extruders, an independent testing laboratory has conducted long-term mechanical tests that show these benefits can be achieved with no negative effects on long-term hoop stress (LTHS). Pipe specimens were tested according to ASTM D2837 and ISO TR 90801.

Manufacturers in a variety of other industries can also achieve similar outstanding processing results, in addition to other benefits such as improved recycling possibilities and reduced waste and downtime, when they specify one of Dyneon's wide range of Dynamar PPA grades for their processing application.

Dynamar FX 5911 is the processing additive of choice in HDPE pipe applications, however, Dynamar(TM) FX 5920A, Dynamar(TM) FX 9613 and Dynamar(TM) FX 5920B can also be used.

When running materials ranging from the low melt index strength of LLPDE to the high molecular weight of HMW-HDPE, low concentrations of Dynamar PPAs improve the processability of blown and cast films, blow molded bottles, drums and tanks, extruded pipes and tubes, wire and cable jacketing materials and extruded fibers.
