Adapter Card enables communication with serial I/O.

Press Release Summary:

Isolated adapter card, PCI-AC48, links RS-485 serial devices with industrial and personal computers using 33 MHz PCI bus. It enables RS-485 communication with Opto 22 serial-based I/O, including remote bricks for mistic(TM) I/O product family, as well as SNAP-B3000 serial brain. Product incorporates 2 RS-485 serial ports that provide communication in 2- or 4-wire mode, and software that allows user to access adapter card ports as standard COM ports.

Opto 22 Announces PCI-AC48 Adapter Card New PCI-based Card for Communication with Serial I/O

Temecula, CA - July 26, 2004 - Opto 22, a developer and manufacturer of hardware and software for industrial automation, remote monitoring, enterprise data acquisition, and machine-to-machine (M2M) applications, has introduced the PCI-AC48, a new PCI-based adapter card for RS-485 communication with Opto 22 serial-based I/O, including remote bricks for the mistic(tm) I/O product family, and the SNAP-B3000 serial brain.

The PCI-AC48 is an isolated, high-speed adapter card designed to link RS-485 serial devices with computers using the standard Peripheral Component Interconnect (PCI) bus included with most of today's personal computers. The PCI-AC48 is compatible with both industrial and personal computers that feature a standard 33 MHz PCI bus and is ideal for customers who have been using Opto 22's AC37 adapter card but must upgrade to a newer computer that uses the PCI bus rather than the ISA bus.

"The development of the PCI-AC48 adapter card is significant because it provides Opto 22 customers an alternative to the popular AC37 adapter card, which communicates via an ISA bus," says Mark Engman, Opto 22 Vice President of Engineering. "PCs with these older ISA buses are becoming increasingly difficult to source, as most new PCs today include only a PCI bus interface. The PCI-AC48 thus allows Opto 22 customers to migrate their PC-based control and data acquisition applications to more modern PCs."

The PCI-AC48 adapter card supports communication with Opto 22's mistic and Optomux® serial I/O hardware systems. Two RS-485 serial ports provide communication in either two-wire or four-wire mode. The PCI-AC48 also includes software drivers for Microsoft® Windows® 2000 and Windows XP that allow the user to access the adapter card ports as standard COM ports. These drivers can also be downloaded from the Opto 22 Web site.
