Active Chilled Beams target Green commercial buildings.

Press Release Summary:

Designed to operate with any dedicated outdoor air system in North American commercial buildings, IQHC Series features 12-slot nozzle that is field-adjustable with 2 hand-operated levers. Integral flow pattern control can also be angled as much as 45° to address room hotspots. Measuring 2 ft wide, beams come in 2-pipe and 4-pipe models, each in 4, 6, 8, and 10 ft long versions nominally-rated at ½ gpm and 0.5 in. w.g. Four lengths deliver 3,800, 5,000, 7,420, and 9,700 Btu/hr, respectively.

SEMCO Introduces IQHC Series of Active Chilled Beams for Green Commercial Buildings

The IQHC offers high capacity, but with reduced pump and fan energy, plus superior indoor air quality for North American applications.

SEMCO® LLC, Columbia, Mo., an energy-efficient HVAC equipment  and IAQ technology leader,  introduces the IQHC (high capacity) Series of active chilled beams that provide high efficiency cooling/heating and are specifically designed for the loads of North American commercial building applications at hospitals, office buildings, and schools.

The IQHC offers one of the industry's highest capacities, but features up to a 25-percent and 50-percent reduction in pump and fan horsepower respectively, versus conventional chilled water loop or rooftop forced air HVAC system methods.

The quick-installing IQHC eliminates hours of site coordination time because of five universal six-inch-diameter duct knockouts with spin-fit collars located in the top or any of the four sides and universal water piping connection locations. Each beam easily snaps into two included mounting brackets.

Competing brands use factory-set airflow nozzles that require replacement  or complicated pressure balance calibrations for cfm rate changes, whereas SEMCO's design features a proprietary 12-slot nozzle that's field-adjustable with two easily-accessed hand-operated levers. The integral flow pattern control can also be angled as much as 45-degrees to address room hotspots. The nozzle adjustment additionally provides a unilateral, disproportional or equal air volume from each side.

The beams can be installed in a ceiling grid or as a pendant, the latter which highlights the IQHC's aesthetic 22-ga. construction and powder-coated finish.

The two-foot-wide IQHC is available as two-pipe or four-pipe models each in four sizes spanning four (3,800-Btu/h), six (5,000-Btu/h), eight (7,420- Btu/h) and 10-foot-long (9,700- Btu/h) models nominally-rated at 1/2-gpm and 0.5-inch w.g.  The variety of sizes offers architects complete flexibility for any type of space size or ceiling heights up to 14 and 18-feet-high when utilized for heating and cooling only, respectively.

The IQHC is designed to operate with any dedicated outdoor air system (DOAS), such as SEMCO's Pinnacle Series, which uses exhaust heat recovery and molecular sieve enthalpy wheel technologies to efficiently deliver drier air at higher temperatures, thus eliminating the potential of condensation that's associated with some competing chilled beam brands.  Specifying both the IQHC and Pinnacle offers engineers a single-source responsibility system of cooling, dehumidification and heating from one manufacturer.

Selecting and designing a chilled beam system is quick and comprehensive with "The SEMCO High Capacity Chilled Beam Design and Selection Software," a Microsoft Excel-based program for engineers available through SEMCO's North American manufacturer's representative network. The program instantly generates a full engineering schedule of output parameters such as desired beam pressure, water temperature, primary air temperature, primary air humidity, room temperature, room versus ceiling temperature and ceiling temperatures.  SEMCO factory-engineering reviews are also available.

Other IQHC features include:

• Hinged perforated steel panel provides easy coil access for recommended five-year periodic cleaning and maintenance.

• Universal duct knockouts allow for quick aftermarket room re-configurations.

• Easy-access, externally-located universal 1/2-inch (o.d.) fittings allow water connections conveniently located in an unobstructed  beam top position.

• Design software allows for quick time-saving global changes to any parameter.

• Pendant-mounted designs utilize plates to take advantage of the Coanda Effect that enhances an even air distribution down to the floor even when there is no ceiling or wall present.

• Every beam includes a quick response (QR) code to provide additional SEMCO website information .
