ACT Expands Isothermal Furnace Liner Production

Lancaster, Pennsylvania - September 2, 2008 - Advanced Cooling Technologies Inc. (ACT) is expanding the production of its Isothermal Furnace Liner (IFL) products.

The expanded product offerings cover a wider temperature range and turnkey systems. At the low end of the temperature spectrum, ACT now offers sub-ambient IFLs utilizing ammonia as the working fluid in the temperature range of -40°C to +50°C. At the high end of the temperature spectrum, ACT now offers Haynes 230® IFLs for significantly improved life and dimensional stability in the temperature range of 1,050°C to 1,100°C.

In addition to these two new products, ACT is also offering turnkey blackbody and materials processing systems. These systems include the IFL, heating and cooling mechanisms, precision temperature controls, over temperature controls, thermocouple wells, and other custom features packaged in an application specific enclosure.

IFLs have been used successfully for over four decades in precision calibration and materials processing applications. Historically, high temperatures IFLs, in the temperature range of 400°C to 1,050°C, have been the most widely used. As the benefits of inherently isothermal heat pipes have been realized, the IFL market has expanded to lower temperatures. For example, ACT manufactures Cesium IFLs for use in the 300°C to 650°C range, Water IFLs for use in the 50°C to 250°C range, and more recently Ammonia IFLs for use in the -40°C to +50°C range. At the highest temperatures, particularly for applications around the copper melting point (approximately 1,085°C), standard Inconel IFLs have been limited to short life times and dimensional instability. As the temperature of an IFL increases, the internal pressure increases, while at the same time the strength of the Inconel envelope is rapidly decreasing. Manufacturing the same IFL using significantly higher creep strength Haynes 230 addresses this issue.

ACT also builds turnkey IFL systems for custom applications. Precise temperature control is very important for developing new materials and thermal processes in the energy conversion, nano-particle research, and advanced electronics development. Heat Pipe IFL systems have been shown to provide temperature uniformity, stability, and repeatability that is unmatched by conventional electrical resistance heated furnaces and ovens. ACT's engineers work with customers on a daily basis to provide thermal management solutions to challenging and often unique applications. This experience and expertise allows us to design and manufacture turnkey IFL systems at favorable prices. "Responsive customer service is a top priority," says Mr. Pete Dussinger, Manager of ACT's IFL Products, "We welcome joint development activities, long term supply agreements, and any other mutually beneficial business agreements with our customers."
