Accu-Sort MiniCam CMOS Camera and Decoder Chosen as Plant Engineering Product of the Year Finalist

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - October 20, 2006 - Accu-Sort Systems, Inc. announces that the AccuVision® MiniCam(TM) CMOS Camera and MRC Decoder were chosen as a finalist for Plant Engineering magazine's Product of the Year in the Material Handling category. This is the second consecutive year that a new Accu-Sort product has been selected as a product finalist. Plant Engineering magazine sponsors this annual competition, which includes 15 product categories. A panel of judges chooses the finalists in each category based on innovation, problem-solving and industrial applications. Winners will be announced in the November issue.

The MiniCam, Accu-Sort's smallest 2D reader, offers camera performance at the price of a laser. The MiniCam provides a wide field of view, integrated LED illumination and flexible connectivity to host systems. Paired with the AccuVision Decoder for Mid-Range Cameras, MiniCam provides real-time decoding of all industry standard one-dimensional bar codes and two-dimensional symbologies. This, along with web browser-based set-up and configuration, make the MiniCam the easiest camera to install on the market.

"We are once again honored to have the MiniCam recognized by Plant Engineering as a finalist for Product of the Year," said Gregg Branning, Accu-Sort president. "The MiniCam has proven to be innovative, reliable and easy to install by many of our customers. Being chosen is a great accomplishment for us."

With the largest sensor size in its class, MiniCam provides coverage to accommodate a variety of package shapes and sizes on the production line without having to be relocated. Multiple heads per decoder allow for greater cost savings and flexibility, along with easy multisided reading of packages or products. Camera technology delivers a read rate of 99 percent or greater compared to laser technology's 90-96 percent. "Cameras can also consistently read damaged, poorly printed or small aspect ratio codes that cannot be decoded by laser scanners," Branning said. "This increased productivity and a maintenance-free design give the MiniCam the lowest total cost of ownership."

The AccuVision decoder ships with Accu-Sort's advanced control and diagnostic software, AXCESS(TM) for AccuVision Cameras®, a web-based application that allows anyone with a computer and an Internet browser to set up and configure the decoder. It operates remotely using a network connection or locally via a keyboard/monitor connected to the decoder. Images can be displayed to provide easy diagnostic troubleshooting to evaluate package no reads.

Camera and decoder replacement is made simpler with the use of a USB memory stick. All parameters can be automatically stored on the memory stick so replacement is as easy as inserting the memory stick, and the correct parameters are automatically downloaded. Replacement time is less than five minutes, which means less downtime.

MiniCam is a cost-effective scanning solution for a variety of industries, including parcel/package distribution, retail/wholesale distribution, tire manufacturing and general manufacturing. The system is ideal for applications including multisided arrays, package verification and print/label verification.
