Accessory Modules expand capabilities of LAN certifiers.

Press Release Summary:

FIBERTEK(R) fiber accessory kits enhance LANTEK(R) LAN Cable Certifiers, allowing user to measure signal loss, length, and propagation delay over single-mode and multi-mode fiber. Snap-in modules expand performance of cable testers. TRACETEK, available with premium versions of FIBERTEK, analyzes reflections along fiber and reports distance to events, such as bad splice or overly sharp bend. It is capable of measuring light losses as low as 0.3 dB.

New Accessories Expand Capability of IDEAL LANTEK LAN Certifiers to Enable Testing of Fiber Optic Runs

-- IDEAL Again Leads the Market with Breakthrough FIBERTEK & TRACETEK Accessories for LANTEK Cable Certifiers, New Modules Enable Installers to Cost-Effectively Measure Signal Loss, Length & Delay of Fiber Runs, Plus Perform Many OTDR Trouble Shooting Functions --

LAS VEGAS, NV, May 6, 2002 (BiCSi Spring Conference, Booth 137)? IDEAL INDUSTRIES, Inc. has sent a shockwave through the data communications industry by introducing FIBERTEK®, a powerful, highly accurate new line of fiber accessory kits designed to enhance the company's flagship LANTEK® LAN Cable Certifiers. Premium versions of the FIBERTEK package include TRACETEK, a revolutionary testing module that represents an economical alternative to expensive Optical Time Domain Reflectometers
(OTDR).

"As the price of installing fiber continues to drop, the capability to test both copper and fiber in mixed installations is becoming an expected function for the installer," noted Doug Waggoner, General Manager of the IDEAL DataComm Group. "Our new FIBERTEK and TRACETEK accessories, used in conjunction with IDEAL LANTEK 6&7 testers, immediately and cost-effectively meet that need for the installer, making his business more competitive and profitable."

MORE CAPABILITIES FOR LANTEK
FIBERTEK snap-in modules radically expand the performance level of both the LANTEK 7, the world's first cable tester fully compliant with the emerging Category 7/ISO F standards, and the LANTEK 6, a Category 6/ISO F cable tester with a frequency range up to 350MHz. FIBERTEK is one of the most accurate loss measurement options available on a LAN Tester/Certifier today.

In addition to testing copper, FIBERTEK enables technicians to use their LANTEK units to troubleshoot fiber optic backbones, as well as fiber to desktop installations in single building and campus environments. With FIBERTEK, the installer can accurately measure signal loss, length and propagation delay over Single mode (SM) and Multimode (MM) fiber. A transmitter and receiver are built into each of the two adapters that come with the FIBERTEK kit, providing technicians with the technology to perform dual wavelength, bi-directional measurements, as well as loop-back measurements. In addition, FIBERTEK has a Talkset feature for full duplex communications over fiber, and a network specific autotest for those network types where length is critical such as Gigabit Ethernet (1000 Base LX and 1000 Base SX).

Unlike competitor's less advanced adapters, FIBERTEK adapters fit
securely into the display and remote units without extending from the end of the units, creating a product that is comfortable to handle while reducing the likelihood of tester damage.

TRACETEK: A COST-EFFECTIVE ALTERNATIVE TO OTDRs TRACETEK, a powerful option available in premium versions of FIBERTEK, analyzes reflections along a fiber and reports distance to events, such as a bad splice or an overly sharp bend, as well as the event's magnitude, thus eliminating the need for the installer to purchase or rent an expensive OTDR. TRACETEK is capable of measuring light losses as low as .3dB, a level of accuracy that makes it perfect for finding the source and location of virtually any problem in a fiber run. As a further
convenience, TRACETEK's trace results can be stored and uploaded for later viewing on a Windows®-based PC.

PRICING & AVAILABILITY
IDEAL is immediately making FIBERTEK available in two basic kits and two premium kits, one for Multimode and the other for Single mode.
