New Accessory Kit from Southco Enables Flush-Mounting of Vise Action(TM) Compression Latches in Thin-Profile Door Panels

Concordville, PA, November 30, 2004-A new mounting bracket kit designed for Southco's Vise Action(TM) Series compression latches makes it possible for end users to take advantage of the aesthetic and physical benefits of flush-mounted latches-even on thin-profile, sheet-metal door panels. The new bracket enables designers to create a cleaner, more streamlined look, while providing added security and protection for the recessed latch.

This new kit expands the mounting possibilities of Vise Action Series latches for applications where a consistent 0.25 inch (6.4 mm) of pull-up compression can minimize vibration and noise or compress gaskets to provide environmental and EMI/RFI sealing. The kit also enables users to adapt a greater variety of Vise Action Series latch models for flush-mount or recessed installation-including latches with stainless steel bodies, and latches with head styles required for application-specific or industry-specific needs.

Each kit includes a bracket designed to accommodate the tool-actuated larger-size Vise Action latch styles, plus a rubber O-ring for sealing the opening around the head of the latch actuator to keep out dust and moisture. With the appropriate latches and gaskets, flush-mounted Vise Action Series latches are suitable for NEMA-4 and IP 65 applications.

Brackets are available in two depths-one to accommodate the typical 0.25 inch (6.4 mm) head style, and one for the 0.35 inch (9 mm) Railway Standard and Bellcore head styles. Each bracket is available in galvanized steel or in stainless steel for use outdoors or in harsh, corrosive environments. Bracket mounting is achieved with two M5 studs or bolts. A shaped opening in the bracket recess keeps the latch body in the desired orientation. The simple round-hole panel preparation is easy and provides design flexibility. Panel preparation for head styles using a double-bitted key can also be designed so that the key can be removed only in the latch-closed position.

In addition to the new thin-panel bracket mounting option, Southco also provides a collection of flush-mount latch designs intended for direct installation into door panels ranging from 0.20 inch (5 mm) to 1.10 inch (28 mm) in thickness.

The expanded flush-mount options enhance the aesthetic appeal and protection of the Southco Vise Action Series latches for a variety of applications, including doors and panels of electronics enclosures, industrial machinery, bus and rail transit applications, RV and off-highway vehicles, HVAC equipment, and outdoor lighting fixtures.
