ADTRAN Introduces New Series of Wi-Fi Enabled Multiservice Switch-Routers

NetVanta 1335 Enhances All-In-One Integrated Platform with 802.11a/b/g and Layer 3 Switching

HUNTSVILLE, Ala--May 22, 2007--ADTRAN(R), Inc. (NASDAQ: ADTN), a leading supplier of networking equipment, today announced a new performance-enhanced business-class Multiservice Access Router. The NetVanta 1335 is a unique platform that integrates a modular IP access router, 802.11a/b/g Wireless Access Point (WAP), 24-port Layer 2/3 Power over Ethernet (PoE) switch, firewall, VPN appliance, and DSU/CSU, all in a single, compact chassis. The NetVanta 1335 also features RapidRoute(TM) technology, delivering the enhanced performance necessary for IP telephony, corporate connectivity and Internet access, with advanced services like Quality of Service (QoS), Network Address Translation (NAT) and firewall enabled.

"The Tolly Group's initial spot check of the NetVanta 1335 shows that the integrated platform packs diverse functionality into a single box, including routing, Layer 2/3 switching, VPN and firewall security and wireless access point capability - all of the functions that are important to SMB and enterprise branch office users," said Kevin Tolly, president/CEO/founder of The Tolly Group.

The NetVanta 1335 with Wi-Fi provides 802.11a/b/g dual radio support at speeds up to 54Mbps. It offers advanced business-class features including multiple SSIDs, the ability to disable SSID broadcasts, 802.1x for user authentication, and WPA2 support. It also employs the concept of Virtual Access Points (VAPs), the equivalent of wireless VLANs, that allow customers to securely segment their wireless network just as they would their wired network.

"As the need for instantaneous information continues to grow, so does the importance of wireless connectivity," said Tim Saunders, vice president, product management, ADTRAN Enterprise Networks Division. "By adding Wi-Fi to our integrated platforms we are increasing the number of applications this product will serve in the SMB space. We continue to provide SMB customers with an all-in-one business solution that meets their needs in terms of both functionality and price point."

This 1U-high platform offers a single expansion slot that can house any of the NetVanta Network Interface Modules (NIMs) or Dial backup Interface Modules (DIMs). For uplink or stacking capabilities, it also includes one or two Gigabit SFP/1000Base-T Ethernet interface(s), dependent upon the model.

Like all NetVanta platforms, the NetVanta 1335 is based on the ADTRAN Operating System (AOS). This allows for the support of standards-based switching and routing functionality. The NetVanta 1335 provides 8.8 Gbps of non-blocking switching capability at Layer 2 and Layer 3. It offers an integrated 24-port Fast Ethernet switch, and includes a model that supports Power over Ethernet (PoE) functionality on all 24 ports. The PoE variation of the NetVanta 1335 supports both the 802.3af standard and pre-standard legacy functionality. Gigabit SFP/1000Base-T Ethernet port(s) support stacking with the ability to stack and manage up to 16 switches from a single IP address. QoS is used to prioritize mission-critical traffic like VoIP and to control network traffic congestion on both the Local Area Network (LAN) and Wide Area Network (WAN). Memory expansion is available via CompactFlash and can be used for a variety of applications including backup and restoration of configuration or dat a files.

For existing NetVanta-based networks, ADTRAN also announced the NetVanta 150 lightweight WAP. This business-class access point is perfect for corporate environments that need a secure, integrated WLAN solution. The NetVanta 150 is designed to exclusively co-exist with other NetVanta products and is centrally managed through an ADTRAN Wi-Fi Access Controller integrated into various NetVanta routers. Each of the Wi-Fi access controllers can manage up to eight NetVanta access points.

The small form factor of the NetVanta 150 allows it to be placed in discrete locations and it can be desktop or wall-mounted. In addition, the auto-sensing 10/100Base-T 802.3af compliant Ethernet port can be used to power the unit, expanding installation options by eliminating the need to be near a power outlet.

The NetVanta 1335 and NetVanta 150 will be available at the end of May. List prices are as follows: NetVanta 1335 $1,595; NetVanta 1335 with PoE $2,395; NetVanta 1335 with Wi-Fi $1,995; NetVanta 1335 with PoE and Wi-Fi $2,795; NetVanta 150 $425, ($445 with AC power supply).
