Belden's New Four-Radio Xtrathin(TM) Access Point Quadruples WLAN Capacity, Adds Even More Flexibility to the Belden Wireless Solution

RICHMOND, IN - Belden, a world leader in the development of signal transmission solutions for wired and wireless enterprise networks, as well as industrial, broadcast, residential and security markets, now offers a four-radio XtraThin(TM) Access Point (AP) for use with the Belden Wireless Solution: an innovative interference-free WLAN system for real-time business applications with predictable RF performance.

The new four-radio AP (Belden Part No. BWAP-400) incorporates four IEEE 802.11 radios, which when compared to all other wireless systems, allows the Belden WLAN user four simultaneous non-overlapping channels at every location - or a quadrupling of their local capacity and bandwidth. The four-radio Belden APs also operate on any of the four overlapping Channel Blankets integral to the Belden Wireless Solution and they can be used in any WiFi mode (a/b/g). This means that users have the flexibility to allocate channels and bandwidth to specific applications (voice or data), specific device types, or certain user groups. Or, they have the option of allocating three radios to handle IP-packet traffic, while using the fourth radio as a dedicated rogue AP and wireless intrusion detection sensor. The four-radio Belden AP truly provides unmatched capacity, a unique flexibility of use and a distinct, system-based security monitoring capability.

Both the dual-radio and four-radio XtraThin APs are simply constructed with no built-in intelligence so they do not require any special configuration at set up, plus they are completely client-agnostic and support any off-the-shelf client network interface card (NIC). Since they are powered by standard Power over Ethernet (IEEE 802.3af PoE) provided by the Belden Wireless Switch, they also provide the user with a real plug-and-play architecture for implementing wireless LANs of virtually any size.

About the Belden Wireless Solution
The Belden Wireless Solution offers a robust architecture that is fundamentally different from that of standard WLANs, which use cell-based technologies requiring complex RF Cell Planning to avoid co-channel interference. Belden's Wireless Solution is a Layer-2 Edge solution with a unique Channel Blanket topology to allow each radio channel to be used everywhere, at every Access Point, thereby creating blankets of continuous wireless coverage with no roaming latency or co-channel interference problems. With this solution, consistently high throughput and predictable Quality of Service are assured even when cell traffic is high, and full compliance with IEEE 802.11a/b/g protocol and security standards is maintained.
