Progeniq Launches Universal Version of BioBoost Accelerated HMMer for Mac OS X

Delivers HMMer BioInformatics Calculations Up to 40 Times Faster

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif., June 11 // -- Progeniq Pte Ltd, a leader in reconfigurable computing applications, today launched the Universal version of its BioBoost(TM) Accelerated HMMer application for Mac OS X. The BioBoost provides hardware accelerated processing for the most computationally intensive applications. By utilizing Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) technology, the processor is able to 'rewire' itself on the fly according to the application that needs to be accelerated. The Universal version of BioBoost allows applications to run natively on both PowerPC, and Intel-based Macs. Adding BioBoost removes computational bottlenecks and optimizes the entire workflow providing final results faster.

The commonly used HMMer bioinformatics application can now harness the power of BioBoost on Macs to speed up computations by up to 40x faster than a typical processor.

"Progeniq has had very strong demand from Mac users over the past year since launching the BioBoost v3.0 for Mac OS X Universal last year at WWDC 2006", said Progeniq's Chief Executive Officer, Darran Nathan. "This year, we're thrilled to introduce the new HMMer BioBoost accelerated application for the Mac. This will no doubt expand the value of the BioBoost to the Mac community even further."

"Combining the power, security, and stability of UNIX with the ease of use of the Mac interface, Mac OS X provides the ideal platform for scientific research," said Ron Okamoto, Apple's vice president of Worldwide Developer Relations. "We're thrilled that Progeniq has released a Universal version of BioBoost HMMer, so researchers can run their computationally intensive calculations significantly faster, saving time and money."

The BioBoost(TM) Accelerated HMMer is available for immediate shipment and requires Mac OS X version 10.4 Tiger. Prices start from USD 8,000.
