TPM AC Servo Actuator

Elk Grove Village, IL - alpha gear drives, Inc. will display the TPM AC servo actuator, an innovative servo-gearmotor package consisting of a brushless AC servomotor, a high precision TP planetary gearhead and an optional holding brake. The TPM is designed specifically for servo applications that require highly dynamic moves and a minimal footprint. It is available in a variety of sizes and ratios (21:1 up to 220:1) with continuous torques from 8 to 1,000 Nm (71 to 8,850 in.lbs); peak torques from 30-2,600 Nm (265 to 23,010 in.lbs). The TPM is compatible with servo controllers from most of the industry's leading manufacturers.

The TPM has an extremely high degree of stiffness and accuracy. This is achieved by direct integration of the pinion into the motor shaft, a short motor shaft to pinion distance, a large motor shaft diameter and master-level precision gears. This design creates high positioning accuracy (<1 arc minute of lost motion), with low compliance resulting in shorter cycle times, smooth actuation and reduced production costs.

Because of its integrated design, the compact TPM sets new standards for reduced weight and length. It is approximately 62% shorter and 44% lighter than a traditional motor gearhead combination of comparable power. This is especially important for applications where mounting space is limited - the TPM can often replace a right-angle servomotor/gearhead combination -- or where the motor itself is part of the moving load (e.g., robotics, gantries, optical media production, semiconductor manufacturing, punch presses, panel-machining) - the reduced weight equals faster cycle times.

Designed and manufactured to meet alpha's high quality standards, the TPM comes lubricated for life, is maintenance free for over 20,000 hrs, and is UL listed.

The TPM simplifies the mounting process by reducing the number of components to be connected. The application load mounts directly to a standard output flange where the heavy-duty roller bearings make the TPM suitable for driving and supporting rotary tables instead of using mechanical cam-type indexers or worm-gear systems.

The TPM incorporates a multi-turn absolute encoder, eliminating the need to return to home for referencing after a power loss or E-stop. Two rotating connectors allow for easy cable routing.
