Reliance® MD65 Microdrive from Rockwell Automation Offers Simple Solutions for Drive Applications

GREENVILLE, S.C. (May 15, 2003) Following on the success of the MD60, the new Reliance MD65 AC microdrive continues to provide users with the reliability and ease-of-use they expect from the Reliance Electric(TM) brand. The MD65 is a new class of microdrive, combining high performance motor control with easy parameter setup. This feature-rich, yet cost-effective drive offers users an extended horsepower range in a compact package, providing optimal performance for a variety of material handling applications across an array of industries.

The MD65 delivers a 60:1 constant torque speed range and an output frequency range up to 400 Hz. It provides overload protection at 150% for one minute and 200% for three seconds. Available from .25 to 10 HP, the drive delivers +/- 1% speed regulation through sensorless vector speed control. Ample torque can be produced at speeds as low as 1 Hz. A custom V/Hz curve setting is also an option. Ratings are available in 115 V, 230 V, and 460 V AC inputs.

To simplify setup and operation, the MD65's onboard keypad features out-of-the-box settings, auto tuning, and easy diagnostic capability for troubleshooting and fault detection. For ease of programming, the drive also provides users with a minimized parameter list that is divided into three categories: basic parameter group, advanced parameter group, and display group.

In addition, a number of advanced features set the MD 65 apart from the competition. The drive offers compare and timer functions, a PID controller, skip frequency band, and dynamic braking. For maximum flexibility, the MD65 comes with eight preset speeds, four configurable digital inputs, two configurable digital outputs, an analog output, a relay output, and two analog inputs. For cyclic applications that require braking, the drive comes standard with a built-in braking transistor and resistor kit options.

The new Reliance microdrive is a compact and cost-effective product ideally suited for material handling applications with requirements for good speed regulation, high performance, and flexibility. The MD65 provides high starting torque and excellent low speed control. Output frequencies can be set up to 400 Hz, and carrier frequencies are settable up to 16 kHz. The drive's range of performance specifications and adjustable features meet both variable and constant torque application requirements.

For local or remote configuration, control, monitoring, and diagnostics, the new MD65 drive is available with an optional multi-line NEMA 4X LCD keypad. IP20 mounting is standard, with an optional NEMA 1 kit available. DIN rail mounting is available for drives up to five HP, and a remote door-mount NEMA 1 keypad is optional. In addition, programming the drive can be simplified with the use of an optional hand-held Copy Cat keypad to program, upload, and download configuration parameters. These functions can also be accomplished through the use of V*S UTILITIES, a PC software program designed to interface with the MD65.
