Original Press Release:

Rockwell Automation Extends Power Range Capability of PowerFlex Family with Variable-Speed AC Drives for High-Horsepower Applications

MEQUON, Wis., March 18, 2004 - OEMs and end users who want high-performance, reliable motor control for high-power applications now have new cost-efficient options. Complete Automation leader Rockwell Automation has extended the AllenBradley PowerFlex family of AC drives to include the new PowerFlex 700H AC drive and additional power ratings for the PowerFlex 700S AC drive. The drives - which can be used for motor control applications up to 450 horsepower (250 kW) - feature the modular design, robust performance and easy-to-use features that are common to the entire PowerFlex family. The PowerFlex 700H and PowerFlex 700S drives will expand in the future to cover even higher power ratings and voltages to 690 volts.

PowerFlex 700H AC drive. The PowerFlex 700H drive is available in power ratings from 200 to 450 horsepower (132 kW to 250 kW) at 400 and 480 volts. The drive offers high-performance motor control for applications that demand accurate open-loop speed regulation, such as fans, pumps, conveyors, mixers, crushers, debarkers, centrifuges, stamping presses and simple extruders. For application flexibility, users can configure the PowerFlex 700H for volts-per-hertz or sensorless vector control. Standard I/O options include 24V or 115V digital I/O plus analog I/O for added flexibility. Users can seamlessly integrate the drive into the manufacturing process using NetLinx communication options, including DeviceNet, ControlNet and EtherNet/IP networks. AllenBradley DriveExecutive and DriveTools SP software tools ease programming, configuration, monitoring and troubleshooting.

PowerFlex 700S AC drive. The PowerFlex 700S is now available in power ratings from 0.5 to 450 horsepower (0.37 to 250 kW) at 400 and 480 volts. With selectable high-performance motor control algorithms, a high-speed data link and an integral position loop, the PowerFlex 700S drive is ideal for precise control of motor torque, speed and position in demanding applications, such as paper, converting, and steel processing. The PowerFlex 700S can include the DriveLogix embedded control option, which incorporates the innovative AllenBradley Logix control engine into the high-performance PowerFlex drive for application programmability and control of auxiliary functions in a single package. With the embedded option, the drive can operate as a stand-alone device, communicating to a central controller, or as an intelligent drive and controller combination in a fully distributed architecture, eliminating the need for an external controller.

By leveraging the PowerFlex 700H and the PowerFlex 700S modular power structure, standardized packaging and the commonality of features, OEMs and end users can help reduce training, maintenance and inventory costs. The modular power structure design limits maintenance, installation, and inventory costs. Common user interfaces, networks, and programming ease programming and start-up and help reduce training needs.

Like all products within the PowerFlex family of drives, the new high-power drives are designed to meet worldwide power ratings, packaging requirements and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) criteria. PowerFlex drives are CSA/cUL-Certified, ULListed, and CE-Marked.
