Rockwell Automation Introduces Compact, Zero-Cabinet AC Drive For Motor Control in Wash-Down Applications

Network-ready Allen-Bradley drive can be mounted directly on AC motors to provide space-saving control and superior environmental integrity.

MEQUON, Wis., Feb. 12, 2002 - Designed to meet user demands for motor control in wash-down or zero-cabinet environments, the new Allen-Bradley Bulletin 160Z AC drive features NEMA 4X/IP65-rated protection and network connectivity in a compact, space-saving design. This drive is the newest drive within the Bulletin 160 product line, which now offers four different packaging options including IP54/65 configured, chassis mount, IP20 open style and integrated NEMA 4X/IP65 drive. Each drive package delivers a user-specified, space-efficient control solution for three-phase motors, ranging from 0.37 to 4kW (0.5 to 5 horsepower) in voltage classes of 200 to 240 and 380 to 460 volts.

The Bulletin 160Z drive is designed to be small enough for mounting on most standard AC motors, helping ensure variable speed control and flexible network communications connectivity, and easing installation and communication flexibility. The 160Z AC drive also contains adapter plates for wall and flange mounting, giving users additional installation options.

The 160Z AC drive features a choice of four different communication modules, including DeviceNet(TM), RS-232C, Profibus-DP and InterBus-S. These modules are vital when it comes to providing a low cost solution for drive control and monitoring.

Start-up on the 160Z AC drive is simplified by using either a Remote Keypad Module or CopyCat Keypad Module. The Remote Keypad Module is designed to meet IP65 (NEMA Type 4 requirements) and can be used in place of separate panel-attached control inputs,
reducing installation and start-up time and minimizing control wiring. Alternatively, the CopyCat Keypad Module simplifies parameter programming by providing a hand held interface allowing parameter upload and download.

The Allen-Bradley 160Z AC drive is available with or without a motor, allowing easy retrofitting on existing motor-drive installations. Its durable design helps the drive withstand increased vibration when mounted directly to a motor.

Other attractive features of the 160Z AC drive include fault history for performing system diagnostics; an elapsed time meter indicating the hours and power cycles the drive has operated; feedback on specific drive and load conditions; programmable external dynamic braking; and improved input/output (I/0) response time.
