AC Drive handles harsh washdown applications.

Press Release Summary:

Compact V74X adjustable frequency ac drive is available with NEMA Type 4X/12, IP66-rated enclosure. This makes drive suitable for use in installations where it is exposed to severe environmental conditions or hose-directed water, and indoor installations where dust is encountered or accumulated. Powder coated heatsink helps protect against erosion by harsh cleaning solvents used in food processing areas. Drives are available in ratings of 1/8 to 15 hp.

Yaskawa's Compact, Versatile V7 Drive Now Available in 4X/12 Enclosure

WAUKEGAN, Ill., July 1, 2002 -- Yaskawa's compact V74X high-performance adjustable frequency AC drive, providing the choice of two control methods from a very small package, is now available in an integral NEMA Type 4X/12 enclosure.

Yaskawa's versatile V74X allows selection of either Volts/Hertz or open loop vector control for speed/ torque performance to suit the application. In addition to tighter speed regulation, open loop vector control provides higher torque at lower speeds.

The new V74X incorporates the full features of the drive into an integral NEMA Type 4X/12, IP66-rated enclosure suitable for harsh washdown and dust-tight applications. These include installations where drives are exposed to severe environmental conditions or hose-directed water and indoor installations where dust is encountered or accumulated. The new powder-coated heatsink helps protect against erosion by harsh cleaning solvents used in food processing areas.

Type NEMA 4X denotes corrosion-resistant construction, many times the only approved approach when equipment must be mounted in food processing or storage areas. The combination with Type NEMA 12 provides additional protection against dust in areas including equipment rooms containing air intake plenums.

The resulting V74X enclosure is ideally suited for wet or dusty application environments common in food and beverage processing, packaging, metal machining, woodworking, pumping, refrigeration and printing.

CASE Software Environment
The V74X incorporates capabilities to operate with Yaskawa's Custom Application Software. This powerful technology can add functionality to operating software, enhancing an application by reconfiguring drive default parameters, establishing presets for OEM equipment, or by eliminating peripheral controls and PLCs.

Features and Functions
Capabilities for digital programming of almost 200 parameters provide true versatility, while a digital pulse train input ensures precise frequency entry - an important feature for speed/follower applications.

The drive features a digital operator with a 4-digit LED status display. Seven standard multifunction inputs access 17 preset speeds. Analog input, a multifunction Form-C relay output, two multifunction open collector outputs and analog output are also provided as standard features.

An RS-485 Modbus RTU network communication port allowing up to 32 nodes on a single network is standard. Plug-in interface option boards enable network communications via major protocols, including DeviceNet, and Profibus.

The Yaskawa V74X is simple to install and set up, with easy access to operating constants via the Digital Operator's LED readouts. Operating conditions including output frequency and current are also monitored through the digital operator.

The V74X AC drive is globally compatible, conforming to CE, UL and Cul requirements. It is available in ratings of 1/8 to 10 HP at 230 VAC and 1/2 to 15 HP at 460V.

Yaskawa is the world's largest producer of AC Drives. The drives business of Yaskawa Electric America, Inc. operates from facilities in New Berlin, Wis.; Waukegan and Buffalo Grove, Ill.; Los Angeles, and offices throughout the Americas.
