Absorbance Filters calibrate UV-visible spectrophotometers.

Press Release Summary:

NTRM Performance Qualification Filter Sets, modeled on NIST neutral density glass standard reference materials, are certified at 5 wavelengths in visible spectral region and cover absorbance values between 0.2 and 2.0 Abs. Six filters are available in values of 0.3, 0.5, 0.7, 1.0, 1.5, and 2.0 Absorbance. They can be measured at 440, 465, 546.1, 590, and 635 nm. Filters are supplied in metal anodized containers to minimize contamination.

Thermo Spectronic introduces the NTRM Absorbance Filters

Rochester, New York, USA, February 2002 - Thermo Spectronic, A Thermo Electron business, has recently launched NTRM Performance Qualification Filter Sets to their line of calibration and system qualification products.

NIST (National Institute of Standard and Technology, formerly the National Bureau of Standards) has produced Standard Reference Materials for many years to calibrate the wavelength and verify absorbancy of UV-Visible spectrophotometers. Recently, the NIST production capacity has become insufficient to meet demand and a program has been set up to allow private-sector production of these materials.

Building on years of experience in the field, Thermo Spectronic has been approved to offer a selection of NTRM Filter
Sets (NIST Traceable Reference Materials) for use in most commercially available UV-Visible spectrophotometers. The
filters, modeled on NIST neutral density glass standard reference materials, are certified at 5 wavelengths in the visible spectral region and cover absorbance values between 0.3 and 2.0 Abs.

A total of six absorbance filters are available in values of 0.3, 0.5, 0.7, 1.0, 1.5 and 2.0 Absorbance. They can be
measured at five wavelengths: 440, 465, 546.1, 590 and 635nm. Prior to certification, the glass filters have been aged at Thermo Spectronic for at least 6 months. Included with each set of filters is a holmium oxide filter, traceable to both
NIST and NPL (National Physical Laboratory).

Filters are supplied in metal anodized containers designed to minimize contamination of the glass surfaces. They are supplied with a certificate of calibration and a recommended date of recalibration.

Thermo Spectronic, a Thermo Electron business, is a manufacturer of UV-Visible spectrophotometers, fluorometers, and FRENCH® Pressure cell disruption equipment.
