Absolute Software's Computrace Support to be Installed in Rugged Portable Computers

General Dynamics Itronix GoBook® XR-1 now shipping with industry standard computer theft recovery and data protection support built-in

VANCOUVER, Dec. 12 -- Absolute® Software Corporation ("Absolute" or the "Company") (TSX: ABT), the leading provider of firmware-based, patented Computer Theft Recovery, Data Protection and Secure Asset Tracking(TM) announced today that General Dynamics Itronix GoBook® XR-1 is now shipping with industry standard Computrace® computer theft recovery and data protection support built-in.

"For more than 20 years, General Dynamics Itronix has designed and manufactured rugged computer products for professionals requiring powerful computing in an environment outside an office setting," said Mike DiBiase, vice president of Computing Technologies for General Dynamics Itronix. "Because the equipment is used in the field, our products are naturally exposed to increased risk of theft and even left behind on occasion. By embedding BIOS-level support in our mobile products, we are offering our customers peace of mind with the ability to retrieve missing or lost assets."

Effective immediately, General Dynamics Itronix will begin shipping its popular GoBook XR-1 with Computrace Computer Theft Recovery, Data Protection and Secure Asset Tracking technology built in at the BIOS level.(1) General Dynamics Itronix also plans to begin offering Computrace support in its next generation GoBook VR-2 semi-rugged notebook computers.

According to John Livingston, Chairman and CEO of Absolute Software, "Unlike laptop computers designed for use at home or in offices, the General Dynamics Itronix family of rugged computer products spend their entire working life in the field - in service vehicles, military transport and with personnel on foot. Traditional IT asset management and theft protection are very challenging under these conditions. With Computrace, General Dynamics Itronix customers can track their computers wherever they go, recover those that go missing and remotely delete sensitive data should a computer fall into the wrong hands."

Support for the Computrace agent embedded in the BIOS of computers is shipped turned off and can be activated by purchasing a subscription to one of Absolute Software's Computer Theft Recovery, Data Protection and Secure Asset Tracking(TM) solutions. Once activated, customers can log into an online Customer Center to centrally manage up to 100% of their Internet-connected PC assets from a single user interface. In the event a computer is stolen or goes missing, Absolute can help recover it or remotely delete data to ensure that sensitive information is not exposed to computer criminals.(2)
