New Low Cost Modular Absolute Encoders
A series of low-cost, modular absolute encoders especially suited to severe electrical (EMI) and physical (high temperature, vibration and moisture) environments has been introduced by CCC. These new units will convert any shaft input to BCD or binary information corresponding directly to the shaft angle with an accuracy of +/-1 pt. in 1000. They consist of a 1.1 " diameter transducer and a 2.6" x 3.1 " x .6" H printed circuit mounting module.
Since the shaft transducer used is a highly reliable resolver, these units are free from deficiencies such as limited life brushed, light sources, brush noise, ambiguities and limited
resolution usually associated with conventional optical or mechanical encoders. The zero point can be reset to any value via an available offset adjustment. Available outputs are 0-360° or 0 to 999 bcd or 10 Bits binary. The transducer reference supply is also included in the electronic module. Simple cable runs of up to 1,000 feet between the transducer and electronics package can be used.
Data outputs are TTL compatible and a data transfer and data hold line are provided for simple interfacing to a computer or microprocessor. The basic update rate is 2.5 ms. DC power
or +/-15V at 25ma and 5V at 300ma is required.
Operating temperature range of 0 to 70°C is standard for the module, and -55°C to +125°C for the transducer. Nema 12 heavy duty housings are available on all transducers.
