New Low Cost Multiplexed Scaleable Absolute Encoders
A series of low cost, Multiplexed Scaleable Absolute Encoders especially suited to severe electrical (EMIN) and physical (high temperature vibration and moisture) environments has been introduced by CCC. These new units will convert up to 16 shaft inputs to BCD or binary information corresponding directly to the shaft angle with an accuracy of ±1 pt. in 3600 at the lowest cost per axis available today.
Since the shaft transducer used is a highly reliable Resolver, this system is free from deficiencies such as limited life brushes, light sources, brush noise, ambiguities and limited resolution usually associated with conventional optical or mechanical encoders. Channel selection is via a binary address and any output scale factor desired can be provided (i.e., lbs., feet, meters, etc.). Simple cable runs of up to 1,000 feet between the transducers and electronics package can be used.
Multiple shafts can be encoded simply by adding another transducer. Data outputs are TTL compatible and a data transfer and data hold line are provided for simple interfacing to microprocessors and programmable controllers. The basic update rate is 2.5 ms and four digit displays are optionable.
Units can be provided with size 11 transducers and the electronics package is 4.5" x 7.25" x 1.5" H. DC power of ±15 and 5V DC is required if the internal power supply option is not chosen. Operating temperature range of 0 to 70°C, or -55°C to +85°C is standard. Nema 12 Heavy Duty housings are also available.
