AboveNet Delivers Private Optical Network Dedicated to Motion Picture Production

Users test 1gbps on-demand connections that enable digital workflow between Hollywood, London, San Francisco and New York

SAN JOSE, Calif., July 18 - AboveNet Communications, Inc., a provider of fiber based connectivity solutions for businesses and carriers, announced today that it has started customer usability testing on one of the media and entertainment industry's largest optical network dedicated to connecting digital workflows between studios and post-production facilities.

AboveNet is uniquely able to build and operate this breed of Industry Private Network -a technology platform specifically engineered for high- value content creation between collaborators across the media industry - by combining private fiber infrastructure optimized for digital workflows with media-specific engineering and support.

"This testing phase is a milestone in the deployment of high performance optical infrastructure that enables exciting new opportunities to connect digital workflow from camera to distribution," commented Joseph Ramsey, General Manager AboveNet Media Networks. "We have been careful to collaborate with leading media companies in user group meetings to design a scaleable network solution that supports high-definition digital workflows and makes production processes more efficient and cost effective."

Between now and September 2007, over 15 major studios and post-production facilities will use the network and evaluate:

o The user interface to self-provision on-demand 1gbps private optical
links to any other network member

o High-speed file transfers that enable digital workflows between content
creators

o Opportunities for digital workflow integration that facilitate
efficiencies between content creators

o The economies of replacing fixed overhead dedicated point-to-point
circuits with individual network transmissions chargeable to specific
projects - only when and as needed.

Initial service is being tested between industry locations in Los Angeles (including Burbank, Hollywood, Universal City, and Culver City), San Francisco, New York City, and London, England. AboveNet expects usability testing will conclude in September 2007.
