ABB Unveils New Products at DistribuTech


Relay, sectionalizer and substation automation components part of a wide range of new offerings

Tampa, FL, January 28, 2008 - ABB, the leading power and automation technology company, announced several new products last week from the exhibit floor at the DistribuTech conference. The new offerings include the following:

AutoLink single-phase sectionalizer, recently acquired from Argentinean company Cavanna FBS, a fused by-pass switch used to isolate reclosers during maintenance COM600 distribution automation platform, which includes control and monitoring functions, a communications gateway and substation computer
REF615 feeder protection relay, a new addition to ABB's protection and control portfolio
Intelligent Data Sensor, which is designed to automate older meters and relays that do not have communications capability

In addition to the distribution-oriented products above, ABB also announced the release of MCM800, a new condition monitoring module for its System 800xA for power plant controls; the introduction of overhead HVDC Light, the next step in the company's pioneering transmission technology; and the North American debut of PASS (Plug and Switch System) switchgear, a hybrid air- and gas-insulated product unique to ABB.

The wide-ranging introduction speaks to ABB's continuing advancement of transmission and distribution technologies that improve grid reliability. The company is a dominant player in the North American market, with well over half the entire installed base of T&D equipment having been supplied by ABB or its predecessor companies.
