ABB's System 800xA Wins Award from Prestigious International Mining Publication

Industry-specific application for System 800xA wins "2009 Mineral Processing - Ancillary and Analysis - Award" from Mining Magazine.

Wickliffe, Ohio- ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, announced that its Industrial IT Extended Automation System 800xA has won the '2009 Minerals Processing - Ancillary and Analysis - Award' from the prestigious international trade publication Mining Magazine. The award ceremony took place on October 8, during the inaugural Mining Magazine Congress 2009 industry event, which was held in Ontario, Canada.

ABB's flagship automation system has improved industrial productivity, safety, and operational profitability for numerous mining and minerals processing customers all over the world, as well as for customers in process industries such as oil and gas, petrochemicals, pulp and paper, cement, to traditional electric and water utilities to alternative energy production such as solar, waste-to-energy and bioethanol.

System 800xA serves as the foundation for a number of unique industry-specific automation applications. Designed from the beginning to act as an extended automation integration capability, it has proven to be well-suited for major composite plant systems and integrated process and electrical power systems.

For mining customers, System 800xA includes a dedicated Minerals Application Library that provides advanced operations and maintenance information from all parts of the plant and other systems, to enable real time visibility into the process and rapid action to address potential problems; this improves plant performance as well as process reliability. Maintenance teams have direct access to different on-line information, including predictive alerts along with associated documentation such as electrical schematics and instructions. In case of required maintenance actions, System 800xA will be able to fill-in automatically the "work order" in the maintenance software.

The 800xA Minerals Library also provides electrical energy management, for optimization of energy use.

System 800xA's unique integration capability provides superior access to and visibility into all plant systems. It also provides remote access and remote operation KPI's (key performance indicators), real cost, stock management and procurement capabilities, up to the balance of plant. System 800xA can also integrate with the customer's ERP system, so that all operation information can be accessed by the business system, regardless of where the company headquarters are located,

ABB, serving the mining and mineral processing industries since 1973, delivers integrated process control, optimization and information systems, state-of-the-art drives systems and world-leading technology such as gearless mill drive systems and power distribution equipment as well as service and support.
