ABB Provides Rapid Delivery of Critical Transformer at Oak Ridge National Laboratory

ABB and Eaton partnership yields rapid-response buildout, installation of key power transformer unit to keep Tennessee federal lab running

New Orleans, Louisiana, April 20, 2010 - ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, provided a rapid-response, near-record time build-out and delivery of a new power transformer for Eaton Corporation to install at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) in Tennessee.

ABB worked closely with Eaton to design, build and deliver a critical replacement small power transformer unit to a Tennessee federal lab. ABB engineers quickly responded to emergency requests and worked around the clock to design, build and deliver a small power transformer from its South Boston, Virginia plant, in less than two weeks. Normal lead time for small power transformers is ten to twelve weeks, subject to specifications.

"I believe this is one of the fastest instances that a power transformer of this type has ever been designed, manufactured and delivered by the ABB South Boston facility, and we completed the process quickly without compromising the high efficiency and reliability standards of these transformers," said Dan Bumblauskas, ABB's Eaton Electrical account and marketing manager. "Eaton and ABB have worked very well together on several occasions to respond quickly to urgent customer needs."

"We received an emergency request from officials at the Oak Ridge Laboratory in Tennessee after an older transformer had stopped working. ABB responded quickly to our request for a power transformer," said Molly McCloud, local Eaton sales engineer. "We requested the initial transformer over the holiday break, and ABB designed and delivered a new, energy-efficient transformer unit to us in just 13 days. This quick, proactive response really saved the day for researchers and employees at the laboratory."

Eaton product manager Steve Lovell added: "Eaton depends on ABB to help satisfy our customers' transformer needs. ABB personnel in South Boston have proven time and again that they are customer-focused. Their service level and responsiveness keeps them as a leading supplier for Eaton's transformer needs."
