ABB Delivers Turbine Upgrade Project to Cleco Power Plant in Louisiana

ABB to provide Symphony Control System and mechanical upgrades for turbines at Cleco's Dolet Hills Power Station

Orlando, Florida - ABB, the leading power and automation technology company, was selected by Cleco Power LLC to supply its Dolet Hills Power Station in Mansfield, Louisiana, with a Distributed Control System (DCS) and various mechanical components for a turbine controls upgrade project.

ABB is providing Cleco Power with an integrated DCS system that replaces the existing Westinghouse DEH Main Steam Turbine Controls, the Westinghouse Boiler Feed Pump Turbine Controls, condition monitoring equipment and the mechanical overspeed bolt system for each turbine. In addition to the new DCS, ABB is providing custom designed mechanical components to enhance turbine operation and reliability.

"We have a long-standing strategic alliance with ABB and look forward to building on our earlier successes together as we implement this new project." said Greg Flynn, Lead Engineer, Cleco Power. "This upgrade should improve our unit's performance and provide our operations personnel with more advanced technology to monitor and control plant equipment. "

ABB will be utilizing its Symphony Platform with Harmony controllers and Harmony Rack I/O. ABB will also provide several hydraulic components and associated instrumentation including: speed probes and brackets, solenoid trip manifolds, trip status manifolds, and actuator replacements, which will interface to the DCS system. Currently, ABB's Symphony platform is installed at several of Cleco's generating plants.

"ABB and Cleco have had a successful alliance in place for more than 10 years implementing many successful projects throughout Cleco's network of operating plants," said Mark Taft, Senior Vice President and General Manager, ABB Power Generation, North America. "ABB is privileged to partner with Cleco and we look forward to working with them in supplying greater energy efficiency and reliability to the Dolet Hills power plant."

This announcement was made by ABB at the PowerGen International conference and exhibition held this year in Orlando, Florida.
