ABB Wins Crane Automation Orders Worth $40 Million



Automation, power equipment and services to maximize crane efficiency, reliability and safety

Zurich, Switzerland - ABB, the leading power and automation technology group, has won orders worth a total of $40 million from Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries Co. Ltd (ZPMC) to supply crane automation and electrical systems for three projects. The orders were booked in the first quarter.

The projects include:

o Automation, electrical systems and related services for 38 unmanned automatic stacking container cranes and eight ship-to-shore container cranes at Busan New Port in South Korea. ABB will deliver full crane automation and support systems including Extended Automation System 800xA, low-voltage AC motors and drives, electrical transformers and switchgear to maximize overall efficiency of the port's automated terminals, as well as related project management, engineering, customer training and commissioning services. The cranes will be operable in mid-2011.

o Automation and electrical systems for two ship-to-shore container cranes and four electric rubber-tired gantry container cranes for Santa Marta International Terminal Company in Colombia. The cranes will be operable at the beginning of 2011

o Automation and electrical systems for three 2,500 ton-per-hour bulk grab ship unloader cranes for Tangshan Port Group, to unload ore from ships and barges at Shougang Jingtang Port in China. The cranes will be operable by the end of 2010.

"ABB's innovative solutions for control and optimization deliver automation that increases speed and productivity, while improving worker safety."

ABB has successfully delivered similar projects in ports such as Singapore, Tokyo, Hamburg, Kaohsiung, Rotterdam and Taipei, as well as previous projects at Busan.
