A Wide Range of Products for Enhanced Performance of Production Machinery

Higher precision, reduced design space and easier installation:

CHICAGO, September 6, 2006. For many years now, the Schaeffler brands INA, FAG and Barden have been at the forefront in main spindles, ball screw supports, rotary tables and linear technology. Complemented by the mechatronic and direct drives specialists from IDAM (INA - Drives and Mechatronics), Schaeffler Group Industrial now offers not only the widest but also the most intelligent product range of production machinery and
machine tools. Intelligent because its individual components are matched to their specific system application and because important and comprehensive functions are directly integrated in the bearings. These include measurement functions as well sealing, lubricating and braking functions. "Increased machine availability is one
of our customers' primary requirements," says Helmut Bode, Head of the Production Machinery sector. Schaeffler Group Industrial meets these requirements by providing compact, ready-to-mount solutions for all conceivable bearing positions in machine tools which enable simple and fast installation for the customer - in
keeping with the motto "Unpack it, bolt it on and it's ready to use". According to Bode, the trend is to use machines with a simple, straight-forward design. "It is important to reliably ensure high performance." The reduction of interfaces results in higher reliability, reduced design space, easier mounting and more maintenancefree
components. Based on the company's "added competence" strategy, this concept makes machines more compact and efficient and increases their reliability and profitability.

Demanding solutions

At IMTS 2006, September 6 to 13, 2006, Schaeffler Group Industrial will present such intelligent solutions including ready-to-mount, spring loaded spindle bearing units and a precisely adjusted product range for ball screw supports. Further elements are the coating kit for corrosion and wear protection and the Bearinx calculation software which was developed for the entire machine tool as well as application-specific linear guide components which enable clearly improved machine performance even in terms of damping and maintenance.

Direct drives

The Schaeffler subsidiary INA - Drives & Mechatronics (IDAM) will show particularly demanding systems including its wide range of direct drives for rotary tables and linear axes. Examples of rotary direct drives are RI internal rotor motors and RE external rotor motors. Both types were designed as built-in motors and therefore
offer an optimum drive basis for rotary positioning systems and rotary tables. They are manufactured to order in customized sizes and thus are suitable for use in a wide range of different applications, among others in milling heads, rotary tables or slewing drives of machine tools.

Linear technology

Profile rail guides for all kinds of applications will be presented by Schaeffler's Linear Technology division. RUE 100 E-L roller type profiled rail units, for example, are ideally suitable for use in large-dimension, highly efficient machine tools as well as in presses. Their static load carrying capacity amounts to 149 and their
dynamic load capacity to 63 tons. Nevertheless they have a compact design so that, apart from the required mounting faces, there is no need to take account of any special data for integration in the machine structure. KUVE..B KT ball monorail guidance systems, too, meet special customer requirements such as high load carrying capacity, dynamics, rigidity, ruggedness and low noise operation as well as functional reliability and safety.

Calculation software

The Schaeffler Group's Bearinx® software is one of the leading rolling bearing calculation programs. It enables the detailed analysis of bearing supports - from individual bearings through to complex shaft systems. The latest version has been complemented by a special spindle calculation module. In addition, the functional cope of Bearinx® with regard to the influences of centrifugal forces on the load distribution and cycling behavior of rolling elements in angular contact ball bearings has been extended. With approx. 60,000 employees at more than 180 locations worldwide and consolidated sales of 8bn (2005), the Schaeffler Group is a leading global bearing manufacturer and automotive component supplier. Group members are Schaeffler KG with its two brands INA and FAG, headquartered in Herzogenaurach, and the LuK Group
which is based in Bühl/Baden. The Industrial Division provides bearing solutions to some 60 different industrial segments via its Production Machinery, Heavy Industry, Power Transmission & Railway and Consumer Products business sectors.
