Original Press Release:

Analyze Compressed Audio and Video Signals and MPEG-2 Transport Streams Offline with Software from Rohde & Schwarz

Munich - Rohde & Schwarz introduces the R&S Vega Suite, a set of software tools for in-depth, offline analysis of media files on a PC. The software expands the company's portfolio of realtime analysis products for MPEG applications. Broadcast operators and service providers can use this software to find signal faults and optimize content. Manufacturers of DTV components use the R&S Vega Suite to check that their products are standard compliant, for quality assurance testing and to improve the performance of their products. The software is ideal for analyzing compressed audio and video signals and MPEG-2 transport streams.

Broadcast operators and service providers have to ensure network availability. They can use the R&S DVM and R&S DVMS monitoring systems and the R&S ETL TV analyzer to immediately detect faults in live signals and record the faulty signal segments. The R&S Vega Suite now makes it possible to analyze these segments, and their video and audio characteristics, in detail on a PC. Signal faults are quickly found and eliminated, allowing operators to optimize the quality of their content. Extensive visualization options simplify analysis, and the save function makes it easy to document results.

The R&S Vega Suite supports the latest standards and technologies, making it especially useful for developers of DTV components and devices such as encoders, multiplexers and transcoders. The software is ideal for analyzing MPEG-2 transport streams (DVB, ATSC, ISDB) and MXF files. The H.264, H.264 SVC, H.264 MVC, H.263, MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, AVS, VC-1 video formats can be analyzed. The MPEG-1/MPEG-2 Audio, Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby E, AAC, HE-AAC and MP3 audio standards are supported. Data streams such as teletext, DVB subtitling, closed captioning, XDS and EPG can also be analyzed. Manufacturers can use the software to check their products for compliance with relevant standards and for interoperability, coding efficiency and audio-video synchronization. To save time, batch processing can be used to automatically analyze multiple files.

The R&S Vega Suite software was developed by Interra Systems. Rohde & Schwarz and Interra Systems have a long-standing cooperation. The Interra software is the ideal enhancement for realtime analysis instruments from Rohde & Schwarz. Since 2007, the two companies have cooperated to provide analysis software for H.264 video.
