Keyway Cutter machines parts and keyways in one operation.

Press Release Summary:

New Axis(TM) Keyway Cutter machines keyways and splines without spindle rotation in bores down to ½ in. dia. Harnessing pressure of machining center's coolant system, product combines keyway cutting with turning/boring operations. Unit is available 5 shank sizes and 4 head sizes, each matched with one of 3 cutter diameters. Positive displacement ball piston motor achieves speeds and torque relative to coolant flow and pressure.

New Axis(TM) Fluid-Driven Keyway Cutter Offers Machining Of Parts and Keyways in a Single Operation

Ramsey, MN-February 5, 2004-Command Tooling Systems has introduced the New Axis(TM) Keyway Cutter, an innovative, fluid-driven solution designed to slash floor-to-floor cycle times by eliminating secondary broaching or milling operations. Driven by a machining center's coolant system, the Keyway Cutter machines keyways and splines - without spindle rotation - in bores down to 1/2" diameter. "The Keyway Cutter is the latest addition to our time-saving New Axis system", said Bob Saby, Product Manager. "By harnessing the inherent pressure of the machining center's coolant system, the New Axis Keyway Cutter combines keyway cutting with turning and/or boring operations. It significantly reduces cycle times, tool wear and increases throughput," Saby added. The New Axis Keyway Cutter is available in five standard shank sizes: BT 40, CT 40, CT 50, HSK63A, and straight shank. Four head sizes are available, each matched with one of three cutter diameters. Odd-sized keyways can be produced via multiple passes to achieve the required depth and width. Custom designs are also offered. The Keyway Cutter uses the same coupling as Command's New Axis Right Angle head, allowing those who already own the New Axis shank to purchase only the appropriate Keyway Cutter head. As with all New Axis tools, spindle rotation is not required for power. The positive displacement ball piston motor in the New Axis head achieves speeds and torque relative to coolant flow and pressure. Light duty applications require as little as 300 PSI, and heavier duty applications require 1,000 PSI or more. The drive shaft transmits power from the motor to the arbor-type stagger tooth cutter via the drive pins. And, the New Axis Keyway Cutter loads easily from an automatic tool changer. Command Tooling Systems is the technology leader in toolholder manufacturing for high-precision machining operations serving many industries, including automotive, aerospace, computer, defense, electronic, job shop and medical equipment. Command is committed to providing tooling solutions of the highest quality, with immediate availability.
