Metastorm Enhances Business Process Management Software Suite

Extended Support for Microsoft Office 2007 and Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007, Broader Document Management Capabilities, and Advanced Simulation Released in Metastorm BPM 7.6

BALTIMORE, MD - May 28, 2008 - Metastorm, a leading provider of Business Process Management (BPM), Business Process Analysis (BPA), and Enterprise Architecture (EA) software for aligning strategy with execution, today announced the release of Version 7.6 of the Metastorm BPM® software suite - including a key milestone in its development of the Metastorm Enterprise(TM) shared services platform. Key features of the new release include extended support for Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 and document libraries, enhancements to the Metastorm BPM client for Microsoft Office 2007, business activity monitoring (BAM) on Windows Vista, new user-configurable reporting capabilities, and support for advanced process simulation and analysis within Metastorm BPM that directly utilizes Metastorm ProVision®.

"This latest release of Metastorm BPM further strengthens our use of Microsoft desktop technologies to deliver greater ease-of-use to process participants and to support faster deployment and user acceptance of BPM within organizations that standardize on Microsoft productivity applications such as Office SharePoint Server 2007 and Office 2007," said Greg Carter, vice president of development and CTO of Metastorm. "In addition, we continue to make progress toward our vision of unifying our applications on a common technology platform - Metastorm Enterprise - that will allow customers to benefit from shared services and shared data throughout their strategy, analysis and execution efforts. By incorporating the powerful simulation capabilities of Metastorm ProVision, a rich business process analysis tool, directly into the Metastorm BPM suite, we are providing our customers with more advanced ways to realize frequent and ongoing process improvements."

Some of the new enhancements included in Metastorm BPM 7.6 include:

o Extended Support for Microsoft Office 2007, Office SharePoint Server 2007 and Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 - The vast majority of organizations around the world standardize on Microsoft productivity applications. The latest features in Metastorm BPM allow these organizations to incorporate process participation, content collaboration, process monitoring, and process reporting and analysis directly into the desktop and web interfaces already in use by knowledge workers - including Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and PowerPoint as well as Office SharePoint Server 2007 portal interfaces. Innovation in Metastorm BPM 7.6 includes unique process binding from Metastorm BPM into Office 2007 and allows for greater collaboration among process participants and business user control over Metastorm process reporting through Excel 2007.

o Business Activity Monitoring on Windows Vista - A new "Notify" gadget for users of the Windows Vista operating system will alert users when new items require their attention in Metastorm BPM. This new feature adds to Metastorm's existing BAM capabilities which range from simple BlackBerry alerts to robust process monitoring dashboards.

o Extended Support for Document Management within Metastorm BPM - In addition to its existing Metastorm Process Pods® that allow easy integration with leading enterprise content management (ECM) and document management systems (DMS) such as Interwoven, OpenText/Hummingbird, and EMC/Documentum, Metastorm has enhanced its software to support document clip fields that allow users to link and track content directly within a process while at the same time storing and maintaining the integrity and latest version of the document in the source content management system. Leveraging this new capability, Metastorm has enhanced its integration with Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 to include support for its document libraries and provided a packaged framework that allows customers to use this capability with any ECM or DMS.

o Advanced Simulation Using Metastorm ProVision® within Metastorm BPM - To more effectively align strategy with execution, Metastorm is moving its independent EA, BPA, and BPM applications to a common platform - Metastorm Enterprise - that will include shared services and a common meta-model for enhanced visibility and better understanding of the impact of decisions at all levels. As part of the Metastorm Enterprise platform development, Metastorm BPM Version 7.6 takes advantage of the robust simulation engine of Metastorm ProVision as the simulation module of the Metastorm BPM suite. Running simulations on process models allows organizations to make informed, knowledgeable decisions regarding changes to processes and enhances full life-cycle process management. Metastorm ProVision is one of the leading, full-scale BPA tools on the market and its combination with Metastorm BPM - a leading BPM suite - provides customers with both depth and breadth for the analysis and execution of critical business processes.

"We believe that Metastorm is the first vendor to focus on bringing enterprise architecture, business process analysis and business process management capabilities together on a common platform, "stated Mike Thompson, BPM practice director at Butler Group. "The incorporation of the Metastorm ProVision simulation engine running within Metastorm BPM in this new release provides one of the strongest simulation and analysis capabilities available in a single BPMS today."

"As a key partner in the Microsoft Business Process Alliance, Metastorm continues to take advantage of its resources in the program to incorporate Microsoft .NET technologies, such as Windows Workflow Foundation, into its BPM suite offering," stated Burley Kawasaki, director of product management for Microsoft Corporation. "The Microsoft Office desktop suite has become the de facto standard for organizations worldwide, and adoption of SharePoint Server and BizTalk Server continues to grow rapidly. In Metastorm BPM Version 7.6, Metastorm has released capabilities to bind process activities tightly within these applications to enhance user productivity and facilitate greater process collaboration."
