Original Press Release:

Acromag Releases Rugged 8-Channel Isolated Analog Output Modules with Cable-Free Mini PCIe Interface

These modules offer cost savings with built-in isolation to prevent ground loops and noise.

Acromag announced today the continued expansion of their AcroPack® Series with the AP226 and AP236 These modules provide built-in isolated voltage output signals to drive up to eight devices. Designed for COTS (commercial-off-the-shelf) these modules deliver high-density, high-reliability, and high-performance at a low cost. They support six independent software selectable output ranges plus capabilities to monitor the status of each output along with the same functionality and memory map of existing Industry Pack (IP) modules.

AcroPack modules improve on the mini PCIe form factor by adding a down-facing connector that securely routes I/O signals through the host carrier card without any extra cabling. Carrier cards are available in PCIe, VPX, XMC and other formats. These carriers provide direct access to the field I/O signals through front-panel CHAMP connectors or the rear backplane. At only 30 x 70mm per module, up to four AcroPacks can plug into a single carrier card in any I/O combination. More than 25 AcroPack modules are now offered for a wide variety of analog I/O, digital I/O, communication, and FPGA computing functions. Avionics, fieldbus, and other functions are coming soon. AcroPack AP226 modules are less than $850 with the AP236 under $1,500. AcroPack carriers pricing starts at $750.

For easy integration of the AcroPack modules with real-time software application programs, Acromag offers C libraries for Windows®, Linux® and VxWorks® systems. These libraries provide generic routines (source code included) to handle reads, writes, interrupts, and other functions. Demonstration programs enable the developer to quickly exercise the I/O modules before attaching the routines to the application program. This diagnostic tool can save hours of troubleshooting and debugging.

“We are pleased to add the AP226/AP236 modules to the product platform,” stated Russell Nieves, Acromag’s Vice President of Sales. “Continued expansion of offerings is critical to providing the capabilities our customers require to meet the latest technological challenges and we at Acromag are committed to providing them with the best solutions possible.”

This COTS line of AcroPacks are SWaP-C optimized, RoHS compliant and ideal for scientific development labs, military and aerospace applications, the defense industry and automation applications.
