Originate Labs Debuts Technical Screening Application AutoQuiz

An Internal Tool, Turned Product, Reduces Resume Screening Friction

SAN MATEO, Calif., March 31 -- Originate, Inc., a free- thinking software technology design firm, today announced that it will publicly release their highly anticipated internal creation, AutoQuiz, during the second quarter of 2008.

Originate Labs has tested, refined and utilized AutoQuiz in their San Mateo offices for the last two years before putting together a team to productize the application. "Our customers wanted to know how we were able to keep consistently hiring great engineers. We used AutoQuiz to screen candidates, giving us more time to spend with the people worth hiring," comments Josh Bandur, Vice President of Engineering. What started off as a simple web application used to screen software developers has transformed into a powerful tool to solve many of the problems currently found in the hiring process. The AutoQuiz, which began beta testing in October 2007, helps employers weed out unqualified candidates and test the ideal job seeker. ONStor, who provides NAS for the Enterprise, and Originate Resources, Originate Inc.'s recruiting firm, were the first test customers outside of Originate Labs to experience the immediate results of the AutoQuiz. The beta testing allowed Originate, Inc. to capitalize on priceless feedback and add new features to AutoQuiz, improving its functionality and utility to the customer. One of the biggest improvements to the AutoQuiz is its Facilitator, a program that parses resumes for keywords chosen by the employer to determine whether or not a resume is acceptable. If the applicant passes the initial screening, they candidate will be sent to the technical screening.

One of the biggest complaints from beta users about the first part of the hiring process was receiving and processing resumes from unqualified candidates and from online spammers. According to Product Manager, Tim Roche, "automating this initial screening process will allow employers to spend less time filtering through unqualified resumes and more time with qualified candidates, leading directly to better hires. This is critical not only because it increases the chance to hire the right people, but it also decreases attrition, which translates to cost savings."

By far the most valuable function is the grading service that AutoQuiz provides following the technical screening process. After the candidate completes the technical screening questions, a professional grader will make an assessment and send the results and scores to the employer via the facilitator. "Having expert graders on hand to review code is an essential feature because it takes the pressure off the recruiter when assessing technical qualifications and lets them focus on employability and builds confidence when referring a candidate to an employer. As a result, employee-to employer relationships are more compatible", said Michele Sloan, Recruiting Manager at Originate Resources.

AutoQuiz is scheduled to be available to the public by the end of March, 2008 and will be presented at the ERE Expo March 31st-April 2nd.
