3M Respirator Wins Prestigious Red Dot Product Design Award

Reusable respirator with convenient quick latch recognized for ground-breaking design

ST. PAUL, Minn., – 3M has been selected as a Red Dot “Best of the Best” Product Design 2015 award winner for its Rugged Comfort Half Facepiece Reusable Respirator 6500QL Series. The award affirms the company’s leadership in designing comfortable, high-performance respiratory protection.

“Being recognized by the Red Dot jury validates our commitment to quality,” said Kevin Newman, product marketing, 3M Personal Safety Division. “Expansion of our portfolio, including the 6500 Series reusable respirator, TR-600 lightweight respirator, and the Adflo Turbo Assembly with High-Altitude upgrade, indicates how serious we are about this market – and we’re thrilled that customers are reaping the benefits.”

The 6500QL Series, which helps protect workers from harmful dusts, gases, vapors and sprays while on the job, was recognized for top design quality and ground-breaking design. It features a soft but firm silicone faceseal that holds up in high-heat environments and comes equipped with long-lasting polyester-spandex straps. The 6500 Series also features a low-profile design for compatibility with other personal protective equipment.

The proprietary quick latch design offers an easy, one-hand-touch drop-down mechanism for putting the facepiece on and taking it off while moving in and out of contaminated areas. The over-molded design of the 6500 series also offers wearers simplified cleaning and maintenance.

The Red Dot design award, the origins of which go back to 1955, is the largest and most renowned design competition worldwide. It received 4,928 innovative entries from 1,994 participants from 56 countries in 2015, with only 1.6 percent of all submitted products winning the highest distinction “Red Dot: Best of the Best.” The 3M Rugged Comfort Half Facepiece Reusable Respirator 6500 Series will be recognized for this distinction at the Red Dot Gala on June 29 at the Aalto-Theater in Essen, Germany.
